The idea that greeks are not white, or that they are even swarthy on anywhere near a large scale, is a complete and utter myth. In the age of the interent, all it takes is a quick google image search to completely dispel this old myth. I'm assuming it persists mainly in america due to the fact there isn't a large or widespread greek population there.
Another myth that is also mainly american, is the idea that swedes are pale, or that they are the pinnacle of whiteness. As you'll see in this thread, swedes are a swarthy people. This was noted by benjamin franklin, who saw them alongside the anglo-saxon and dutch settlers. Germans were also noted by him as swarthy, and he is also correct about this. Australians can easily observe this about scandinavians and germans; we get plenty of sun here and are a beach/sunworshipping culture, however, an anglo-celtic person's tan normally cannot hold a candle to a scandinavian or german tourist. We burn and go pink and damage our skin, where as germans and scandinavians tan beautifully. The australians who tan best are blondes themselves.
The idea that swedes and germans are somehow the pinnacle of whiteness can be largely attributed to myths and truths about nazi propaganda - it is a myth for example that aryan meant blond and blue eyed, or even that it meant white. But that is how americans interpret nazi propaganda. Although it is a fact that blond hair and blue eyes were utilised in nazi propaganda imagery, the nazis never refereed to white racialism or pan-white nationalism.
Another common myth resulting from this is the idea that slavs aren't white. This is purely attributable to the nazi anti-slav propaganda; however, it was never once claimed by the nazis that slavs weren't white. In fact the only nazi reference to the whiteness of slavs was by himmler, who was in fact referring to slavs as a white people.

I am Greek.

Chase Foster
In fact, while slavs were acknowledged as a white people, and believed to be inferior, and hated by the nazis, non-whites like the japanese, chinese and possibly turks were considered to be superior races of humanity.
Brown north indians and persians were considered aryan, but slavs weren't. Slavs were not considered aryan by nazis because of their partial non-indo-european ancestry. But persians and north indians were, which tells us that nazis did not believe that persian and indian "aryans" were brown from non-aryan racial admixture.
Back to the myth of scandinavians being pale or fair skinned. As you can see from this picture, swedes have richly colored complexions. This is well known to anyone who is actually exposed to scandinavian people in real life. Also, whats most interesting to note, the average swede is in fact darker complected then the average greek or italian.

Some Greeks are White. Others are light brown or "olive." I don't see what the controversy is. Nobody is advocating olive skinned Greeks should be treated worse than White skinned Greeks.
Noah Anderson
You're right, all Greeks should be treated like the apathetic, lazy, entitled trash that they are
Jaxson Murphy
Actually, as you can see from the images of greeks, most greeks are pale. They are olive skinned, but still pale, and that brings me to the next myth, the equivocation of olive skin with brown skin. As you'll see from this images, while the blondes / scandinavians shown here aren't olive skinned, they are light brown in complexion. And while the greeks shown here are far from brown, they are olive complected.
Olive complexion or olive skin refers to the tones of an olive; greyish, yellowish, greenish and light brown. Olive skinned people can still be very pale white, they just have a greyish, sallow complexion. Scandinavians and blonds have "bright" hues; golden, orange, peach and pink, but they are still swarthy and tanned year round.
Lucas Clark
Nice image of Mexico OP but what does it have to do with Greece?
Matthew Gray
>Others are light brown or "olive."
see Also, from the images and documentary footage of greeks and greece, its clear that the vast, vast majority of greeks aren't light brown. And the darker ones look like they have a rich sun tan. Now compare that to swedes - pretty swarthy for white people, yet, they get little to no sun, and they retain the complexion year round.

and greeks again. Note how the lightest skinned people of the world are in fact always dark haired, if not ginger.
Ireland has the palest skinned people in the world, it also has a very high incidence of mediterranean phenotype, and dark hair. Black hair and ghostly, alabaster white skin is a stereotypical irish trait.
If you compare a mediterranean looking irishman to a blond from the east of england, the blond wll nearly always be darker complected
Owen Taylor
>le skin complexion What is a tan?
Nicholas Sullivan
So I guess a pasty-white irishman can go to india, get a tan and end up looking as brown as an indian? Darker skinned people tan darker then lighter skinned people. As for scandinavians, yeh they tan in the sun, but they retain their golden-orange complexions year round, they are never fair skinned or pale regardless of sun exposure.
A tan is a temporary darkening on the superficial layers of the skin from sun exposure. It is well known that especially pale and fair skinned people have trouble tanning.
As I explained in the previous post, australians are sun-worshipping and always at the beach, and its considered very important to have a tan in australia. Yet. compared to the scandinaivan and german tourists, anglo-celtic australians tan poorly and burn frequently.
As a matter of fact, scandinavians CAN tan almost as dark as the natural north indian complexion, I've seen it myself. This may be due to actual yamna ancestry of scandinavians, or mongol ancestry (probably more the latter)
David Campbell
Whiteness is clearly a social construct
Ethan Adams
No. Whiteness is more than skin deep.
Wyatt Baker
no it isn't, its clearly also an actual biological reality. Excluding irish people, slavs, italians etc from whiteness is clearly a social construct, however, that doesn't change the fact they are biologically, phenotypically white.
Joseph Cruz
OP got triggered by that Mexico thread where some people said olive-skinned people are not white.
Which is true 'light brown' =/= white.
Anthony Hughes
The majority of Greeks are brunette and olive skinned though with a decent amount of fair/blonde types as well. (probably like 10%) Here is a pic of a few types

If that's your proof of "White Greeks" you should understand that picture is massively blue shifted because it was taken in the shadows everything is shifted to the cooler end of the spectrum, and that blue tone takes out the red "swarthy" tones. Everyone who knows anything about photography knows this. Look how blue the white t-shirts ate. Not good evidence my friend. Show us some Greeks in direct sunlight.

I don't know what those arrows are supposed to point out, they are pointing to guys no darker then your average anglo man
Noah Thompson
Haha, yes. The arrows point to the "Anglo" looking ones. Haha.
Thomas Thompson
you're just making up excuses. No modern photograph can be so inaccurate that it can't capture the skin color of the people in it. No matter what you do to the photo those people will never be brown unless you shop it.
I like how people are focusing on the pictures of greeks, looking at ones of people who are no darker or fairer then northern or central europeans, and saying "they look brown to me". Look at the pics of swedes in this thread for the real brown people
Aaron Thompson
He's a cypriot, but nice try. He's ethnically Greek though.
Connor Rivera
its pointing to some white looking guys with a slight tan. Yes there are plenty of anglo men who look no fairer or darker then them.
I think the problem is that people are thinking about some sort of non existent ideal or archetype of different racial groups, maybe because they come from countries where they aren't exposed to those racial groups. You're probably from some random ass european country in the balkans or something who simply has no clue what anglos actually look like.
What does anglo look like to you? I bet you think they look like guys from nazi propaganda posters with alabster white skin or something. Most anglos are dark haired, most are lightly tanned, and the features of the guys those arrows are pointing to, nothing out of the ordinary at all for anglo-celtic people. Yes those guys look greek however they are no darker or no more non-white then your average anglosphere white guy
Nathan Rivera
>ethnically greek
I'd use that term pretty loosely for him seeing as he's clearly racially not greek, and is a cypriot (cyprus is full of turks)
Jonathan Gutierrez
I just don't understand this. So many paste white girls tanning for hours a week to look brown, and whole nations of brown people insisting they are white. The white people dont want to look white, and the tan people dont want to be called brown.
Nobody can just be ok with the subjective average if what thier own eyes see, or the logic of just being ok with what they are.
David Young
He's not even a Cypriot. He's an American. He was born and raised in America.

like I said in another post, blonds aren't normally fair skinned. But its ironic that these greek blondes are fair skinned meanwhile swedish blonds are golden brown
Henry Jenkins
are you saying that greek people are brown? can't you look with your fucking eyes, at least skim the thread if not read it? I mean fuck, what is it with people. I'm not even greek, I have nothing to do with greeks, but this kind of ignorance frustrates me. People have an idea that Greeks are brown and then no matter how many greeks they see, no matter how many they're shown, they will always be brown in their mind and will always "look brown to them".
Luke Barnes
>and whole nations of brown people insisting they are white. Perhaps Argentina does this. Not Greece. As was stated alot of Greeks easily pass for White if an alien had to come down from space and judge. The whole nation isn't brown.
John Sullivan
Well I am an American so I don't get the privilege of having anything as comfy and meme as an ethnicity or national origin. My grandfather was born in Ireland and moved here in 1960. He lives in Arizona and plays golf in the sun. The tanned part of his arm that sticks out of the short sleeve is dark brown tan. The skin of his back is nearly translucent white to light pink. My dad and myself are the same way. So that's what I would call white.
Austin Kelly
ok I will give you that a couple of them pointed to with arrows do not look the slightest bit anglo but they still aren't especially dark skinned. And I mean you wouldn't bat an eye at a german or french person with skin as dark as that
Ryder Kelly
It's pretty sunny in Greece, user.
Christian Cook
so if he tanned his whole body he wouldn't be white to you? and you do know lots of irish people have olive skin?
Gabriel Hill
I kinda get what you're saying.
Camden Flores
The part that doesn't see the sun would be what I use to judge how dark a persons skin is.
I am married to a Native American woman and have a half blood son who is literally exactly between the skin tone of my wife and myself. I understand that skin tone is a genetic expression that is very flexible. My father and I also turn dark brown in the sun even though we are bright white on our ass. My brother has my identical face and body but doesn't tan at all. He turns pink, then red, then I guess dies of skin peeling off. He got my mothers pigment which is white bit doesn't take a tan at all. Just pink, red then cancer.
So yes I know there are olive skin Irish people and light skinned Greeks. I'm not talking about individuals, just averages. Genetic distributions of migrating people have made rainbows of every place. That's fine by me. But when I meet Mediterranean people they do seem browner to me than northern Europeans. ON AVERAGE.
Gavin Butler
and thats probably an anglo chick where as scandinavians tend to have a more solid golden-yellowish/orange pigment. And when they tan they are just brown.
Its hilarious that its escaped attention this much and that scandinavians are actually seen as pale and some pinnacle of whiteness in the west. In reality they are some rare exotic minority on the far fringes of europe, bordering mongolic people for millenia and eskimos.
You'd think they'd correct the record especially given how anti-white and cucked sweden is now
Aaron Turner

>but they retain their golden-orange complexions year round

Of course most Greeks are white. Just because someone has skin darker than Elmer's glue doesn't make them not white.
Charles Campbell
They all just look like they have rich tans, but that guy in the white shirt on the bottom right, he is not white. The guy with the moustache on the left with the striped collar white shirt, wouldn't look out of place in austria or bavaria.
Guy in the salmon shirt especially just looks like a white guy who lay out in the sun for too long.
Brayden Ross
what? its true. They have an orangey-golden complexion thats just their natural pigment. Anglosphere blondes and other european blondes have something similar, just not as solid / dark / rich
Sebastian Edwards
...
Christian Perez
>But when I meet Mediterranean people they do seem browner to me than northern Europeans. ON AVERAGE.
that doesn't suprise me especially if by northern europeans you just mean anglos, germans, french, dutch whatever. There's also founders effect, where a migrant population moves to another country and because they are marrying within their ethnicity, rarer genetic traits get expressed. So for example with migrant irish populations, ginger hair and pale freckly skin became much more common then it is in ireland. With mediterranean migrants I notice darker complexions then in their origin populations
William Nelson
Except for maybe a few insane cases it's misplaced to compare tanning to wanting to be considered part of a race. Tanning isn't about wanting to appear African or whatever, no one is worrying about any of their other features being too white. It's a matter of fashion and status, it's not to be non-white but to be not pale.
John Hughes
you've never seen brown people then
Joseph Green
I live in the United States between an native american reservation and the U.S. Mexican border. I have most certainly seen brown people. I even married one. Her ass is brown. My best friend in high school was Greek in origin. His dad and grandpa were olive brown. His mom was pasty white scotts Irish. He looked olive brown and yeah He got teased for it. When we did an informal demographic survey in our civics class we categorized him as non white. He was agitated, bit not fully triggered like this thread.
Dominic Garcia
White is a bogus term that has fuck all to do with anything.
