French tanks were just as good if not better as German tanks. Sure they had less then stellar tanks like the Renault R35 but they also had tanks like the Char B1 and SOMUA S35 which were just as good if not better then Germans tanks like the Panzer 3 and Panzer 4. Even the Renault 35 was roughly on par with the Panzer 2 which was the mainstay of German tanks by then.
