Reunification was a mistake

Helmut Khol was an opportunistic hawk, The collapse of Communism should not have meant the end of the DDR. Rather, it should have resulted in a reform and better relationship with the West that Egon Krenz should have enacted as soon as he had the chance, he took too many half measures and people rushed to their "Savior" the FRG. The reality is more was lost than gained with the loss of the DDR. Everything was rushed because of the archaic system and lack of opportunities in the DDR.

I'm not a native German so I don't expect to have local knowledge of the Ost or Die Wende. So please no memery, just discussion.

Germany should have been sterilized and replanted with trees tbqh.

There are Unironically a lot of modern Germans who hate themselves enough that they want their country to just die. It's really fucking weird.

Germany should have dismembered and the G*rmans mass-deported out of Europe after the war. Once in the Americas/South Africa/whatever they should have been forcibly assimilated into their new countries.

Because forcibly displacing a group of people that have a shared culture and language from a land that they (Actually have) a total reason to be in worked so well in the past. Are you retarded or something?

Funny you should say this when arguably West Germany lost out in terms of GDP investment. It's comparable to the end of apartheid when the living standards fell for white South Africans since they weren't able to get such a large slice of the pie anymore.

That would have set America light-years ahead of Europe. A European continent run by Slavs and Latins would be Africa-Tier.

Hallo mein name ist angela. I was one of the first Mauerspechte. I brought the wall down with my bare hands and I disagree with this post. Long live the republic. Heil!

Hallo Angela. Shauen die titten oder weg gehen.

>gdp
useless.

Stupid fucks. It was the Austrians that started BOTH wars!

If your country needs an immense state surveillance apparatus to keep the populace in line maybe it's not so crash hot.

So USA isn't so crash hot?

Nope. Doing the same shit too

Meanwhile on what our politicians promised us when they campaigned. We all know how history played out, but isn't it nice to see that our politicians are double tongued liers?

Could you explain those, please?

You're being way too harsh and completely going against the principle of self-determination.

>Onwards SPD (Social Party Deutschland (Germany)) for a free Germany!
>With the SPD from Bonn over Berlin for a free, social and united Germany
>The whole Germany it shall be (this is from a famous song/poem called "Was ist des Deutschen Vaterlands?" (What is the German's fatherland?)) | To the united fatherland through the CDU (Christian Democratic Union)
>Never Oder-Neiße-Line | Vote CDU
>CDU in battle with Schumachers Centralism | CDU in battle for freedom and christianity | The fifth zone we shall not forget | CDU for a federal, whole Germany | CSU (Christian Social Union) carries in heaviest times the duty | Our misery comes from discord. Keep together in need! Vote CSU
>Final line thereunder! (This is actually quite nice because of the three "Schluss" (End)) | An end to denazification | deprivation of ones rights (TL note: German has some nice concise words for this) | An end to the second class citizen | (He) who wants equal citizenship votes FDP (Free Democratic Party) former LDP
>Split in three? Never!
>Shall it be left so? No! Never! Reunification in Peace and Freedom

Here the song mentioned above; it is from 1813 and expresses the desire for German Union.

tl;dr
Our politicians sold us out to foreign interests.

>What should have been
No. This is what never must happen.
Germany should have become a unified constitutional monarchy after 1848, everything thereafter is just things heading for the eventual conclusion of the second world war.

Worked magnificently for Stalin.

Its just typical Veeky Forums contra /pol/ German phobia, basically reverse Jew meme for leftists, no use to argue with them

DDR was the true Germany.

Which is ironic since /pol/ doesn't like Germany either.

>let's just put a star on these feldgrau uniforms

I mean, I'm not exactly complaining, it's just seems a bit ironic that the communist part of germany would continue the prussian aesthetics in the military.

Stop being retarded. The only thing to be gained from the lost Prussian land was infertile, resource-starved land, international strife inhibiting the rehabilitation of Germany to get Eastern Germany back, and massive debt.

It seems that the German refugees formed a powerful lobby in BRD, and that it was simply politically impossible to accept it the first couple of decades post-WWII. It also seems that BRD inability to accept the Oder-Neisse line caused the Poles to remain loyal to the Soviets. They legit feared German aggression more than Soviet occupation.
>sauce: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oder–Neisse_line#West_Germany

But yeah, I have sympathy for the Germans on this issue. RIP Prussia. I'd say the shameful thing is that the expulsion of the Germans after the war is generally unknown in the West. Even though it's technically the largest ethnic cleansing (note: ethnic cleansing, not genocide) in history.

Huh, I assumed that virtually all Germans at that time would have been left suicidal from the Holocaust, voting heavily left to reflect that - then I know nothing about this era other than the Oder-Neisse Line treaty. Please enlighten me.

ANGL*S spotted

You will pay for your crimes against humanity on the day of the spoon

>Huh, I assumed that virtually all Germans at that time would have been left suicidal from the Holocaust
hollywood movies to shape their opinion on it didn't exist yet

DDR was to my knowledge the best functioning communist state during the cold war.

But shit like Stazi and W.Germany being further ahead in technology and gdp did not convince the E.Germans that communism was better. On the downside however, I have had a German person tell to me that East Germans do not view west germany as their country, and feel betrayed for being economically abandoned. As newcomers to W.Germany they are still at unease with western germans lifestyle and politics like with the refugee crisis.

I think their fundamental problem is that they are stuck with the west Germans and don't have a real local identity being able to say we are "Prussian" or "Saxon" like the Bavarians or people from Weimar can say.

So were they still right-wing at the time? Or was it a case of being very split between far-left and far-right a la 30's Spain?

True. We should have enacted Churchill's plan to restore the princely states of the Holy Roman Empire as independent entities focussed on consumer goods and raising standards of living.

they probably just wanted their country back

Both CDU/CSU and SPD moved away from that in the late 60s already when they accepted the Oder-Neisse-Border. Deal with it stormfag.

>to my knowledge
>Stazi
You must be an expert on that matter.

I want communism back, I miss the DDR.

The Wall:
Sure, it was hard to get out but even harder to get in. No Muslims, no rapefugees.

Economy:
Sure, there weren't 60 different kinds of chocolate available but there was also no unemployment and people helped each other out instead of trying to bring each other down.

Patriotism:
Sure, we were occupied by the Russians in a way, but patriotism was still encouraged and no one promoted racial and cultural suicide.

Culture:
Poisonous American culture was mostly kept out of the country. No McDonalds, no Hollywood, no SJW degeneracy. The DDR was undeniably GERMAN. Not American degenerate race mixed brown-black Hollywood Niggers working at McDonalds, ads with trannies and queers.

Religion:
Was hard, I admit that. But being a Christian in the DDR was still easier than being a Christian today in a SJW shit hole that is increasingly becoming Americanized. Sure, we don't have gay "marriage" in Germany yet, but it's just a matter of time until we are like the US where you commit a crime if you don't bake those gays their fucking cake.

Downside:
The surveillance was shit, of course. Secret police and everything. But we have the same today. With NSA, CIA, FBI whoever watching. And don't you dare to say a wrong word about feminists or refugees! We arguably have less freedom of speech today.

Also:
The part of Germany that was communist is the part now, were 30.000 people march through the streets to rally against Merkel, mass-immigration, against the Islamization adn the Americanization of Germany. It's the part of PEGIDA, LEGIDA, Björn Höcke, people in Heidenau literally attacking the refugee-protecting police at night and then hiding in their neighbor's houses. West Germany is the "Refugees Welcome" SJW part.

50 years of Soviet occupation has obviously done less damage than 50 years (and counting) of American occupation.

On the contrary East Germany was more German than West Germany.

Multiculturalism is when you have multiple cultures. Sweden isn't multicultural, they have it all mixed together into one bland of culture. In Socialism you learned from young ages how to live by the moral code of healthy body in mind and nobody really wanted to mix, in DDR it was even forbidden for foreigners to get sexual with native ones. Muslims stick to their Muslims, not like today when they say multiculturalism but they actually talking about interracial. Anglos never understood the meaning of multiculturalism because you think with your penis and stick it inside everything that moves and your marriages never lasted anyway, neither do your jobs and EU is no different.

Only DDR was kind of successful before they gave themselves to USA for EU to be formed. When Germany sold DDR for nothing they basically became American puppets and now they are destroying Europe to give way for American products to flood our markets.

>American products
You mean Chinese products developed my multinationals, right? This isn't the 1950s.

I wish I lived in the DDR.
The NSA makes the stasi look like children playing cops and robbers.

if you look at how people are getting fucked over left and right in the west, there is constant tension on the workfloor, everyone hates their boss, at some workplaces workers don't even socialize with eachother, etc.

in the DDR everything seemed to be so harmonious

>Literally Fulfilling All Stereotypes About Eastern Germans: The Post

And then you realize that you can easily lose your job or your study place and getting thrown into jail for multiple years for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time-

>Helmut Khol

Not a german but i live in Berlin and my gf's family is from the east.

From my interactions with people there, there is definitely a nostalgia for east germany but when pressed further no one wants it if it means having to wait 1 year to buy bananas.

I suspect that what they really want back is the closer community, importance and sense of purpose.

Perhaps reintegration could have done better but there wasnt really any compatibility of the eastern economy with the west, especially since the west was better by nearly every way possible.

Fickt euch weg, ihr Homofürsten
Yellow Germany best Germany
>DDR was to my knowledge the best functioning communist state during the cold war.
It certainly was among the better ones, but it still failed. And it was an authoritarian regime with little regard for the value of human dignity.
>claims to want communism
>complains about refugees
>likes neonazism
How many layers of irony are you on

Ach Sylvio...nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

>OIMG HE MADE A TYPO THAT ESSENTIALLY RESULTED IN THE SAME WORD!!!!1one11
Shut the fuck up.

Fuck off /leftypol/.

>complains about Germany showing too much solidarity with those less well off
>wants communism
Are you retarded? Do you even have the slightest idea what communism is?

There's nothing left about what he said.

Stop pretending you lived in the GDR. I can already see from your post that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Why

The Berlin wall was built to keep fascist elements from West Germany from getting into the young socialist republic. As we have seen with the emergence of right wing populism in Europe, perhaps it was a mistake to break it down.

>I hate sjws so much I want to live in a brutal corrupt dictatorship
This is fucking unreal, what are you going to do if dear leader turns out to be a sjw himself and orders every household in the country to take in as many refugees as they can support? And don't say it couldn't happen because it's exactly what happened in the Vatican.

So now your dictator has done something you vehemently oppose, but you can't just vote him out and if you speak out against it you'll be shot.

Nothing to do with left or right. People just wanted their territory and in many cases their homelands back. Germans had lived in East Prussia for centuries, their parents and grandparents etc. had grown up there, it was their land. You don't need to be right-wing to want your home back nor does being "left" mean you want to surrender it.
Ultimately it became politically unrealistic to regain that lost land and Germany officially gave up on it in 1990 in exchange for the Allies allowing the reunification, though the lobby groups for East Prussia and Silesia still exist.

>I think their fundamental problem is that they are stuck with the west Germans and don't have a real local identity being able to say we are "Prussian" or "Saxon" like the Bavarians or people from Weimar can say.
Except thjey do exactly that. I have no idea how you can think being Saxon or Pommeranian is less of a identity than being Bavarian.
Prussian is a bit more complicated but a strong identification with Prussia still exists in those places it applies to.

Fuck off /leftypol/ samefag.

DDR had the best living standards of any of the Eastern Bloc countries and arguably the entire communist movement of the 20th Century.

If you are the kind of person who values community, air-tight pristine vaginas and hasnt got much material desires or wishes to travel it was a very good country to live in.

>implying this is a typo and you just didn't think it's Stasi cause you have never read a book on GDR history
It's not a typo. You know it, I know it.

This was true but only because of the massive support by the Soviets. Things got worse when the GDR wasn't able to sell Russian gas the West anymore. This is why the living standard in the 80s went to shit and they had to borrow money from dubious places like Bavaria.

I'm not that poster, I just think you're an insufferable autist.

And I think that dude talked out of his ass and was caught knowing absolutely nothing.

>and was caught knowing absolutely nothing.
What's your evidence for this, beyond a meaningless typo?

English is obviously not their first language; that's far more likely to be the reason.

Easterner here.
Once you accepted the fact that you will never leave the zone, life was pretty utopian (expect you could via Mongolia, but only few people knew how).

Sure we didn't had those awesome stuff Westerners had and the state leaders were dumbfucks, and the party was pretty conservative. But their inability to adapt, which was the reason the state ceased existing in the end, was why we could enjoy the few freedoms that we had. Because whenever something new came, they never knew how to react to this.

If the right people came to power, the DDR would've been a neat place. But Ulbricht was a cunt and Honecker an idiot. And those two were the only ones we had.

Germany was better under socialism.
East Germany:
- 99% white
- extremely safe
- no terrorism
- no mosques
- no degeneracy
- low divorce rate
- above replacement fertility
- no immigration

What's so wrong with Soviet style socialism Veeky Forums? Don't be fooled by the blue haired freaks. Socialism isn't about learning the pronouns of mentally defective sexual deviants and worshipping niggers.

>but muh iPhones and muh big houses!

Is materialism really worth becoming a minority in your own country for?

Wow, you're full of shit. Food was never on shortage except for tropical fruits (explain to me how you want to get your hands on tropical fruits when the part of the world that doesn't boycott you consists of 90% tundra), and nobody had to starve or worry about his health, this cannot be said for Germany in 2016 with shitty wages and skyrocketing living costs

Oh, and education was really good. The western investors that overtook the DDR cooperatives said that the employees were brilliantly trained

>Once you accepted the fact that you will never leave the zone, life was pretty utopian
It wasn't. I am from the East myself and in the archives 3 days a week. Now I won't be stuck in Cold War-vocabulary but the GDR was shit. The West was shit too but to a lesser degree.
>If the right people came to power, the DDR would've been a neat place
The right people got to power during an election process in 1990. They, just like the population, thought it was a good idea to close shop.

>Prussian is a bit more complicated but a strong identification with Prussia still exists in those places it applies to.
You're right about the rest, but everyone who refers to themselves as Prussian was either born in Prussia when it still existed, or is a neonazi.
>English is obviously not their first language; that's far more likely to be the reason.
It's a German word faultily adapted to English spelling.
##2658012
Racism, sexism and closedmindedness are just as bad as the materialism you accuse, user.

Is this a troll post?

>- no immigration
>except for 100.000 of Russian troops
>except for 10.000 of Cuban, Algerian, Vietnamese and Mozambique contract workers
> extremely safe
>except for the ubiquitous corruption
>no degeneracy
>implying the GDR didn't create shitty version of each kind of Western rubbish since the 50s.
>above replacement fertility
>implying this wasn't biopolitics that helped to get women to work

>It's a German word faultily adapted to English spelling.
Do you even realise that you've made no point with this sentence?

Read it again.

I fucking despise the current uniform. The beret is not really a german hat and the uniform itself looks more like an office suit.

>Food was never on shortage except for tropical fruits
>And coffee (see Erich's Krönung)
>and high quality meat since more than 50% was sold to the West
>and beer which frequently ran out in the 80s when the Soviets demanded that cereals were sold to them
Nobody was starving in the GDR but saying that there was never a shortage on food is just wrong.

Pic related is a good place to get started on GDR consumer history.

>It's a German word faultily adapted to English spelling.
It's not. You are not getting what's happening.

>We arguably have less freedom of speech today.
How delusional are you? You think the DDR would have allowed you to visit sites like Veeky Forums? Do you think some modern intelligence service is going to put you under house arrest if you talk to your colleagues about voting AfD?

>Its another "Hitler was Austrian so ww2 wasn't actually Germany's fault" episode

>pic related: (you)

>Pommeranian

Do Germans actually LARP as Slavs? That's worse than the whole Prussian thing.

It was great white power country. East Germany was the most developed country in the warsaw pact.
Also, the communist bloc, for all its faults, seemed to preserve some good aspects of european culture. Small, tight-knit communities, well-trained classical musicians.

There was more freedom in East Germany than in modern Germany.

Okay, let me spell out my argument so that even you two might understand it.
It is just as likely that they are a native speaker of English with no knowledge of foreign languages, and that's why they messed up the spelling.

ive seen that scary fucking morph gif so many fucking times that my brain does it for me on this .jpg

0/10
Try harder.

>native speaker of English with no knowledge of foreign languages
Which in turn would mean he has little right or knowledge to speak about GDR since reading about it means acquiring some central vocabulary (like Stasi). Thanks for proving my initial point.

I never even wanted to prove that point wrong.

German Pommeranians don't have any self-association with the slavic Pommeranians (though they are obviously relted on some level), they just use the same name because thats what the region is called.
Same as with Prussia just that it lasted longer.

>It is just as likely that they are a native speaker of English with no knowledge of foreign languages, and that's why they messed up the spelling.
No it isn't. Read the post. It's filled with grammatical errors that a native speaker of English would not make.

'Stasi' is the German abbreviation, but Cyrillic languages may translate it in another way, hence why they thought it was 'Stazi.'

This is far more plausible.
