Deng Xiaoping

Is he the greatest man to ever live, in terms of "most good brought to the most people"? Hundreds of millions of people were raised out of poverty as a result of his leadership. He directly set the path for China's economic boom, whereas previously China had literally been on par with mid level Sub-Sahara African countries.

Breddy gud guy

another view could be the cultural revolution was disruptive to the extent that there wasn't much alternative regardless.

certainly one of the giants of the 20th century.

>hundreds of millions of people were raised out of poverty as a result of his leadership. He directly set the path for China's economic boom, whereas previously China had literally been on par with mid level Sub-Sahara African countries.

>Strangle a person to near death

>Loose the grip

>H-he saved me, he is t-the savior

>Even before [Chairman Mao Zedong] dies in 1976, large parts of the countryside have already started de-collectivization. People have "gone capitalist," in the parlance of the time. They've had enough. This is probably one of the most dramatic outcomes of the Cultural Revolution.

>In 1978, Deng Xiaoping assumes the reigns of power … Deng Xiaoping tries to reinforce the collectivized economy; he can't do it. By 1980, up to half of all the land in entire provinces like Anhui, Gansu, and Guizhou is already in the hands of individual households. As usual, the people are far ahead of the Party. Deng Xiaoping is clever enough to go with the flow. He portrays himself as the architect of economic reforms, when in fact, the true architects of economic reforms are the people. And it isn't just economic reforms.

>Three decades of endless campaigns of thought reform have produced nothing but skepticism, even among party members themselves. Even before Mao dies, most people have been able to free themselves of the ideological shackles of Maoism. Nobody believes in Mao Zedong thought in the countryside. People have been able to wrench back basic economic freedoms and substitute that hand of the state with their own ingenuity and initiative.

China had been dirt poor long before any Communists.

literally who?

I like how he literally spit on Mao legacy

t. American high school graduate

I mean sure but anyone in his place would have done a decent job.

If they didn't teach us about him, he isn't important.

You'd be surprised. Deng was good because he knew when to listen to economists and other experts who actually knew what they were doing. That quality is often very rare in leaders.

Like Gorbachev?

Soviet Union had a much better economy and lifestyle than the Chinese did and he litterally fucked it in the ass and ate the shit that came out and called "reform".

This Chinese dude did it much better without causing the government to collapse.

>giants
ha ha ha

Chin chon

Best Chinese leader we have had since Mao.

Hope that Xi wouldn't fuck up everything now.

>we

Mao??? Haha the guy after him had to un-Mao the whole economy and then it took off like a rocket.

>putin is a manlet
It all makes sense now

>Poverty fell from 88 percent in 1981 to 6.5 percent in 2012

State capitalism ftw

very underrated by the western political class

Then why are leaders like him exceedingly rare?

Mao listened to experts too but they were more retarded then but by Dengs time they had things figured out better.

Yeah, economic free zone policy. Liberalized the market one region at a time.
