Britain

Was there a better army than the British Army in the 20th century?

The americans

go back lindy

There has never been a better army than the British (and particularly the English) ever in the history of mankind.

> the history of mankind

The Americans have held that title from WW2 and onward as they are the most technologically advanced.

Americans are British

The Vietnamese.

>since WW2

They have a lot of fancy toys and still get their shit pushed in by guerrillas.

DELET THIS

>British
>good

Couldn't beat the Irish.

>Singapore

spelt Americans wrong

>underperform in WW1
>get carried in WW2
>lose your entire empire by the 1950's
the only bright spot was the Falklands

>the irish

the irish wasnt half way across the world either desu

Even the Falklands: up against some failing second grade dictatorship using barely trained conscripts who could not give a single fuck about some dumb sheep covered islands.

>Americans are British
We fought a war of independence to prove you wrong.

US Army
Red Army

The Irish, apparently.

the french, the german, the austro hungarian, the russian, the red army, the japanese, the american
not the italian!
have i forgot someone?

>british army
>good

First of all, the Army is literally where the washouts in the Naval service go.

Secondly, British generals have a terrible habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory by being pompous asses.

Moreover, the british army brass COULD NEVER be held responsible for their own shortcomings. It was always the fault of those damn colonial troops or someone else.

>french

here's your (you)

Look at the family trees of every US president ever

>First of all, the Army is literally where the washouts in the Naval service go
wat
(Rest of your post was true thou)

>Hey guys where are you going ?, the Germans are the other way.

The British army wasn't all THAT good in the 20th century.

I think pound for pound they were up there in WW1 and WW2, but were shown up on this basis by their own colonial troops (Canadians, Australians, gurkhas).

Certain German units were better as well, and the best army as a whole for the century was undoubtedly the Imperial German army of 1914.

Into the modern era. The Falklands was an impressive rout of a pretty decent military on the other side of the world which imo shows the continued British ability to play a large role in foreign lands. Their power is diminished from 1914 but no country except the US could've done what they did. They doesnt rank them the "best" though.

What the British are unstoppable at is actually winning in the end, which is what matters.

Here's a short list

1. German army 1914
2. Red Army 1944
3. BEF 1918 with
3.5. Canadian Corps 1918 (best pound for pound force in history considering they were fighting the best army in history, before you say where's my rake, look it up).
4.USA 1945
5. Wehrmacht 1940
6. French Army 1914

Honorable mentions :
- the NVA / Viet Minh / Vietcong, for fighting off four great powers in like 35 years
- Imperial Japanese army for sheer willingness to fucking die
- Iranian Revolutionary Guard, for merely surviving against Iraq in the eighties, then convincing the Americans to hand Iraq as a proxy state into their hands circa 2010, and the continual asspain caused by them in general

...

>holy shit the british are this delusional

they couldn't even stop an undermanned, barely supplied italian army with a smattering of german troops. Hell they could barely stop the japanese in Burma, imagine no Americans to distract he Japanese?

The Japanese were more impressive then the British, the opening of the Pacific was more skillful and relevant than British participation in the rest of the war

>3.5. Canadian Corps 1918 (best pound for pound force in history considering they were fighting the best army in history, before you say where's my rake, look it up).
I did, nothing supports your assertion.

The 20th century British military was very good in some areas but often suffered from serious gaps in its capabilities as a result of being unprepared, pursuing a dead-end doctrine, or some other screw up.

WW1:
>not enough machine guns, not enough men in the army, bloated navy.

WW2:
>underfed military budget, shitty tank design, overextension, outdated weapons.

Probably more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

This still remains true to this day: just look at all the troubles with the L85 in the 90's, the Challenger 2 MBT upgrades, the new destroyers and aircraft carriers, and the F-35.

nice post user

>Red Army
try again
To be fair, they lost their empire cause of Eisenhower
Overall: 1900-1939: France. 1939-1943: Germany.
1943-2017:USA! USA! USA!

I think the word you're looking for is Navy but the US took away that title in the 1940s

As for army, that belongs to Germany, USSR, and USA

1900-1917 Germany
1918-1934 France
1935-1943 Germany
1943-1945 Russia
1945-2017 USA

Britain had the best navy until the US started mass production in WW2 but their ground units were lacking size and experience

the Russian, American, German and maybe Japanese

They're German. Whats your point?

>USA beating soviet union in 45-70s
Lmao

Nope.

There's more German blood in our lines than British.

Imperial German Army
Wehrmacht
French Army (1914 - 1918)
United States Army (1943 - present)
Red Army
Soviet Army
People's Liberation Army
North Vietnamese Army
Imperial Japanese Army
Israel Defense Force

Probably missing at least five others, British Army was not that good, mate. Even British historians acknowledge how piss poor the British Army conducted itself in both WWI and WWII.

American culture is born out of Puritanism and Whiggery - A subset of British culture

>1943-1945
>Russia
Nope.
