Did romans really charge at enemies with pigs on fire?

did romans really charge at enemies with pigs on fire?
I can't find a real pic (only videogames and CGI) so I'm doubtful now

>real pic
Nigga wut

Yeah they did it during the punic wars to scare the enemy war elephants

Fire pigs were commonly used throughout the history of the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire but there aren't any surviving photos, remember cameras were much rarer and less mobile back then so it would be incredibly hard to use one in the middle of a battle field.

I think OP means pics of a replica

That's just plain wrong, the biggest problem is to convert the pictures to modern devices, because we still have troubles to convert our time into microwave time

A replica of a fucking pig of fire? M8, just take a can of petrol and a lighter down t McD's farm.

holy damn fpbp

>shills trying to derail the thread
fuck off

How did it work? What was used as an accelerant? Were the pigs drenched in lard or animal fat or olive oil or what? How did they ensure they would charge into enemy lines and not just cause widespread chaos everywhere?

Timur the Lame used camels with straw on their backs lit on fire against Delhi sultanate's elephants.

if this is real it's something brilliant
since muslims consider pigs to be impure, this could have been the fist attempt of psychological chemical warfare

>muslims
>romans

The Fall of Rome

Yet again completely wrong, the reason we don't have many pictures is because their cameras printed into biodegradable paper instead of saving in a digital format. It was a lot cheaper in those days to print out pictures than to store them digitally.

He's just operating on another level of irony than you.
Please respect the autism.

They mainly used it on northern african and middle eastern powers, or generally anyone who used elephants or other large mammals to their advantage. The pigs on fire would spook the animals in question into a frenzy, often times having to be killed by their own forces to prevent a loss of life

best thread on Veeky Forums right now
