What went wrong?

What went wrong?

It left before my time :'(

What didn't?

Capitalist roaders

Tried to jump start communism and compete with capitalism even though even Karl Marx knew it wouldnt work like that.

economy dependent on oil exports and unable to feed it self solely from domestic production.

Imperial Russia was a grain exporting super power. Communism, especially Stalin's collectivization and emphasis on a mostly urban population, caused grain production to bottom out. Grain production didn't reach pre communism levels until Putin.

They redirected the Aral Sea feeder rivers to irrigate fields to make cotton. killing fishing so they could export cotton.

The oil crisis of the 70s made prices skyrocket. which put the soviet union at their most powerful. they spent and spent. Then in the late 80s oil prices fell because of the Oil Glut. The glut was partially caused by President Carter deregulation of domestic oil prices. Which lead to a huge increase in domestic production.

The Soviets were no longer able to make money from oil to buy grain and feed themselves. Which is why you saw the return of bread lines in the late 80s.

Basically the lesson is no matter how tempting it is dont become a banana republic.

Everything, oy gevalt what a mess.

Many things went horribly wrong but it was superior to both the Russian Empire and the Russian Federation.

pretty much everything

>Nationalism

you name it, it probably fucked over russia

you can see it happening again in Venezuela.

Though other Warsaw Pact nations had less problems with feeding themselves. Poland especially, as they actually allowed the farmers to own the land and consult the Bureaucrats running government agriculture.

White people were in charge.

>President Carter deregulation of domestic oil prices

Wait, what? Carter actually did something right?

Carter did a lot right.

Iran, nuclear moratorium, and his crisis of confidence speech were his only screw ups.

two of them made him look weak and played into who ever was behind Reagan.

the other killed the USA's transition to nuclear power. which still gives the democrats fuel for elections.

>in charge
>when a bunch of jews, and georgian were running it

Nonsense. People in South America are corrupt. So it doesn't matter if its left wing or right wing in charge. They always fuck things up.

the socialist part

Communism.

>union of soviet SOCIALIST republics

It's right there in the name.

The second letter in its acronym.

That's true, but communism and socialism will always cause more problems because they're so inherently flawed. There's a big difference between being generally shitty and corrupt, and mass starvation.

Ahh seeing a lot of the old "muh breadlines" meme. Read a book please

Jews.

Are you saying breadlines weren't a thing, or that the USSR has even worse problems, or what?

He's saying the entire Soviet Union's duration wasn't the same as the Lenin and Stalin era.

It was a poorly disguised Russian Empire that showed no regard for its own people.

This. The inherently inefficient economic system coupled with overreliance on oil exports for even basic stuff like grain made political dominance over the Eastern Block and eventually other the national republics unsustainable. USSR leadership decided to peacefully dismantle the system instead of using the only trump card they had - huge army - to stay in control and they should be given credit for it.

>r-read a book!
Oh SHID, btfo

They kicked the Tsar out

Like that other poster said, they'll always fuck things up when given the chance. In a planned economy you can control lots of aspects of the economy you can't in a market economy. This also means you have more opportunities to fuck things up. So it's no wonder controlled economies crash and burn so easily.

>Iran, nuclear moratorium, and his crisis of confidence speech were his only screw ups
His foreign policy, in general, was a walking disaster. Argentinian-Soviet relations come to mind.
