Non-English Sea Shanties / Shanty general

Not totally sure whether to head here or /mu/, but it seems a little more your speed.

Over the last few years, and particularly the last few months, I have been nursing a growing addiction to sea shanties. The supply isn't bad, traditionally styled and otherwise, but they're also almost exclusively English. Shanties aside, I'm a world music fag. I'd like to Branch out, but with the exception of Soran Bushi I haven't found jack shit. Can anyone refer me to (preferably non English) examples, or explain why they're so hard to come by? I would have expected at least as many in Spanish, French, and Portuguese as in English, and a number from the East as well.

Also Shanty/sailing ship culture general

Literally everything i know about shanties comes from playing AC4 Black Flag.

They put the text to traditional Irish music but I do believe it was originally a shanty.

Now I need a Norwegian version of South Australia, but my hopes are low.

Turns out Veeky Forums is pretty cool. Will dump English Shanties in return.

Scottish Gaelic waulking songs are rhythmically and functionally pretty identical to sea shanties, though they're usually sung by women

Thanks anons, my collection is expanding rapidly.

For reference, that version of les vieux de la vieille is by Cabestan. Shit took me forever to find, so I figured I'd mention it.

youtu.be/gSUiL6YYvu4

I know its too close to england to fit the thread but I had some pretty irish family in yonkers growing up and they'd sing "my son john" all the time and that shit's got me nostalgic now

youtube.com/watch?v=ZTT-5ev-LLI

A bit hard to classify these as shanties but I think it's as close as it gets, to the pieces defense I'll say yes, they were sorta sang as work songs, furthermore all of these are by the israeli navy band

as for world music in general, I can expand on jewish/israeli musical culture if you're still here, let me know

A Dutch shanty, I think that's Stan Hugill in the crowd as well (probably one of those shanty festivals they had in the Netherlands back in the day):

I've been pretty into shanties for years as well, didn't think there'd be this much interest for them, cool!
