Riace bronzes

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riace_bronzes
>The Riace bronzes, also called the Riace Warriors, are two full-size Greek bronzes of naked bearded warriors, cast about 460–450 BC that were found in the sea near Riace in 1972. The bronzes are currently located at the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia in the southern Italian city of Reggio Calabria, Italy.

>They are two of the few surviving full-size ancient Greek bronzes (which were usually melted down in later times), and as such demonstrate the superb technical craftsmanship and exquisite artistic features that were achieved at this time.

Our they proof that our ancestors were ripped?

Broheim, everyone knows the Greek worshipped the athletic male form with small dicks. You learn this in any intro to western history class. Where have you been?

They were also highly homoerotic and women were to be kept at home lest they be prostitutes or worse, business owners in Roman times.

I studied them in a college class and I remember specifically learning that their proportions were heavily idealized, as was becoming common in Greek sculpture at the time.

If you want to see a truly anatomically correct Classical Greek statue, look no further than my man here.

>Small dicks

I don't think they're erect user

Some people look ideal irl.

...

He was probably holding a spear at some point. The Greek spear man ideal. Little donger and all. Gosh, were they gay or what? Just reading that shit, and they were all, yeah, son, if you're going to be taught by this guy, you beat just let him fuck your thighs. Wow am I glad that pedophilia has died down in modern culture. Call that cultural evolution.

Here's what they would have looked like full

And yet they freaked out over a naked woman. What the hell, ancient Greece?

They were an ideal to strive to, the citizen soldier who stays physically fit and prepared for war even though there is no apparent immediate need.

Aesthetics and the olympic games were a good motivator, whether they all looked like that I don't know.

Of course they didn't. It would take near daily training to keep up such a form. I'm sure that there were sine that did, in the higher castes, but most were farmers, and couldn't keep up the caloric needs of such a body. Maybe the elite, and the soldiers, might have had something closer to that form, but even today, or actors that we attempt to emulate, use steroids (not demonizing their use, as its rather amazing that we have come to a point where we can harness the power of hormones) in order to obtain or current ideal forms of raw masculinity.

Remember that many Greek city states had mandatory conscription. Your average man the Polis would have been a muscular sight indeed. Now if they translate to the countryside I can't say but i'd imagine they'd be much more like you described.

WHAMMU

One thing is for sure, the Greeks did not have steroids. So that statue was based on someone with 100% natty gains.

No your ancestor was most likely a peasant whose diet wouldn't allow him to attain that sort of body type. It's literally impoasible. However, it would not be impossible for noble warriors to obtain body types that could be idealized to statues like that.

It's called Heroic Nudity. It's not meant to be sexual, not entirely at least. Same with competing nude in the Olympics. It was about projecting your virtue, by fighting/competing with nothing but your perfect body. Statues of mythological heroes were almost always nude.

Sigh... If we go back to 2500 years ago you will most likely have both noble and paesant ancestors, since it's like hundreds of thousands of different ancestors... You absolute cretin

You underestimate just how much people from a given region and social class will stay in that region and social class. Most of your ancestors will have been related by single-digit degrees.

The Riace Bronzes are specifically sculpted to superhuman proportions but it's fair to say our ancestors were certainly much leaner.

no, Greek artists were like modern porn artists who create ideal people by drawing a person with the tits of Pamela Anderson, the ass of Jennifer Lopez, the legs of xxx etc

They looked at Olympic sportmen, "wow, this one has a great butt, oh look at those abs etc" and combined those to create art of ideal men.

They were probably the most fit of their batallions. Also, pretty sure most people was ripped or strongfat. Just look at farmers in third world countries. They are either ripped guys in southeast Asia or strongfat in South America. I guess they are strongfat in South America because of potatoes.

Your average Irish peasant ate 14 pounds of potatoes a day. I know it's not connected to Ancient Greece but the example should demonstrate that peasants eat a lot. Unless they can't eat, they're gonna eat.

T. Never gonna make it

How is that a lot?

Potatoes can be very little...

14 pounds of potatoes is the same weight no matter how small the potatoes are. And yes, 14 pounds is a lot of consumption by modern standards.

Did they include the women and children in these stats or just lump them in the daddy's bill?

It's per person.

how many of these potatoes were used to make whiskey?

They were consumed, so 0.

What was the nutritional value of these potatoes?

Should be rather similar.

huh makes sense, strange how differently treated the nude female body is treated. It is such a dangerously seductive thing for most people
