If it had been closer to Rome they would have made more efforts to bring it more in line with Latin or Byzantine tradition. It was able to preserve it's traditions thanks to it being far away Roman empire's areas of concern and influence.

The real breadpill is to embrace your own vernacular form of Christianity at the nearest church to your home, become an active member of your congregation and community and leave the theological/ecumenical issues to those who have actually studied it.
