Is there any moment in history that is more of a "you tried" moment, than the pacific theatre in WW2?
>Japan had the strongest navy in all of human history >attack Pearl Harbor for the lulz >America pulls the strongest navy ever, out of their ass. >oh shit.jpg >Japan loses at Midway and never recovers
Punic Wars, Carthage REALLY Tried, Romans were just too bullheaded and what they call 'Patrician' as they call.

The entire italian contribution in WW2
>invades Ethiopia >"oh we stronk" >joins germany >invades their long time ally and basically puppet Albania >albania surrenders because half of the army likes the italians or are italian officers >"oh we stronk" >try to invade france >fails >try to invade greece >fails >try to invade the rest of north africa >fails >try to help their german allies in the USSR >fails >think that the inasion of the allies will start in greece >bamboozled by a dead hobo and get invaded in sicily >switch sides >mussolini tries to retire >hitler makes him a puppet in a losing war to act as a buffer >mussolini gets executed >lose their king at the end because even if he switched to the allies he still helped the axis
Mammia mia Italy what a piece of shit you are.

>Japan had the strongest navy in all of human history

Most of the later crusades, I'd say

England in the 100 years war. >muh longbows >muh Agincourt >muh decisive victories with much smaller numbers And then just lose it all in the end. I guess it was so traumatizing they never fought a war in the continent again without another ally doing most of the work.
William Hall
Taft Presidency >Just gonna keep on chugging along from where TR left off. >No one like me >Bathtub looking kind of tight. >TR comes out of retirement to run against me...."spaghetti intensifies" >TR gets shot but still does well compared to you. >Wilson is now President and the rest is history. >At least I had a successful career after the Presidency.

The two Mongol invasions of Japan.
It's 1274; Japan hasn't had a significant military encounter in over half a century; they don't have a single experienced general; their society consists of rural, undeveloped, small bands of people fighting other small bands of people which, even united, had a very low probability of defeating the invaders. The Mongols land on Komodahama beach & slaughter literally everyone. They invade Iki & slaughtered literally everyone. They land in Hakata Bay & have a significant amount of initial success until a typhoon leads to the captains suggesting the Mongols leave in fear of being marooned in Japan. Over half of their ships & people die before the next morning, & the Japanese destroy what remains as their smaller, more maneuverable ships are more accustomed to the water.
7 years later, the Mongols come back with two forces containing a total of 4x more than their force in their initial invasion. They're back in Hakata Bay; the Japanese are heavily outnumbered & their defense consists of a 2 meter high wall that the Mongols could decimate in minutes. An even bigger typhoon hits that does even more damage to the much larger force than the initial typhoon did to the vastly smaller force & the Mongols are once again decimated.
Typhoons of this nature occured once in a century in Japan if that. The fact that two occured within a decade is incredibly absurd. & the fact that the Mongols had just begun an invasion both times is even more absurd.

I think I've found the official hymn of the IJN, can anyone else confirm?
Italians again in ww1 >have a massive slapfight over the isonzo for 2 years >ludendorff gets sick of the austro-hungarian's shit >commits german forces with orders to push the minimum amount of distance possible to stabilize the austro-hungarian's front >italian army almost immediately disintegrates why are italians so shit at warfare
Matthew Johnson
They used up so many military points in roman times they're still in the negative

Surely cadorna alone must have put them back in the positive?

Plains nation's during the Indian Wars >US government keeps fucking you over. >Can't really fight effective war due to a combination of shitty tactics and a never-ending wave of white men. >Buffalo are gone now and everyone is sick or dead. >Get one last hoorah because Custer is a cocky idiot. >The publicity from Custer's death makes it worse than ever before. >After wounded knee become a full meme society of alcoholics and poor people selling trinkets. >If you are lucky be a tribe with a casino, otherwise watch as your cultural heritage ever further erodes away.
Angel King
honestly, this
i was about to say the same thing, but luckily first comment best comment.
I'd also add
>two failed invasion of Russia (Napoleon + Nazi Germany)
>the Invincibile Armada invasion (Spain vs Great Britain)
>the Persian invasions of Greece (First and Second Persian wars)
Samuel Bell
>attack Pearl Harbor for the lulz American education there are such things as for the lulz moment in history post industrial revolution
Easton Ramirez
That's a pretty massive exaggeration. Ludendorff sent pretty much only elite German stormtrooper divisions for that offensive, and even then the vast majority of the troops involved in the push at Caporetto were Austro-Hungarian.
>I'll save the Republic, and its birthrates >Leges Juliae >We must restore good civic virtues, just as Cato intended >our g-greatest days are ahead...
No matter how hard he tried, the Empire was always doomed.

Who the hell taught you that Japan had the strongest navy ever?

The Poles when the Germans and Soviets decided it was time to expand. Although they did put up a hell of a fight while they could.

has there ever been more of a JUST country than 20th century Poland?

so gracefully poetic that arguably the greatest land empire the world ever sae would meet such treachorous fate TWICE.

Poland got screwed hard by WW2, the Allies should have been ashamed for what they did
Henry Walker
what should they have done, invade the soviet union? the poles should be grateful that they weren't subject to outright annihilation under the reich

>To add, chinese decomission of zheng he's treassure fleets by a jealous court. no wonder the perfect glove for corrupt officials and communism. Le memes.
Funds were needed to fight the revitalized Mongols. The treasure fleets were expensive as they're basically tasked to dazzle the states along the Spice Route into trading with China. Imagine sailing a fleet of luxury liners on a 24/7 party escorted by multiple carrier battle groups. That was Zheng He's fleet.
His mission to amaze Maritime Asia was fully accomplished by 11 fucking voyages. It had to stop.

Unthinkable should have happened just for the memes it would have created alone.

Didn't Italy completely fail to colonize Ethiopia though?
