At least the Spanish had well organized armies. The rebels barely had anything, because those Spanish armies were paid by their taxes.

10/10 would fight patriotic war for
To be fair the Dutch had a policy to avoid open combat and instead focus on the capture of cities and sieging of forts, something they really excelled at.
Just take Prince Maurice of Orange as an example, in his military career the man managed to conquer 44 cities and 50 forts.
Where is the part in which France chimps out and grants the United Provinces its independence?
>Sjareltjen den Vufden
West-Fleming
>France
That's a strange way to spell England.
Unless you're implying that fucking around in waloons for a bit is "granting the United Provinces their independence."
dit
No, he is implying that single handily destroying the undefeatable Army of Flanderns and driving the Spanish Empire into breakup and bankruptcy only for the greatful Dutch allying with the Anglos against their liberators was a really shitty thing to do.
>Army of Flanders
>Undefeatable
Pick one and only one. While certainly formidable the army was practically always in mutiny and had been bested by the Dutch States army multiple times at this point.
Besides, you're talking about the offensive alliance between the United Provinces and France after the 12 years truce. At this point in time the existance of the Dutch Republic has already been ensured. They were already prospering and were experiencing their golden age, as well as making gains against the Spanish. Most countries had already formally acknowledged the existance of the United Provinces as an independant state and even Spain itself had unformally acknowledged them by accepting the 12 years truce.
It was undefeated in open battle.
And after the 12 years truce collapsed, the Spanish took control of the Rhine river, thereby bypassing the main dutch defences, and even then broke through there as well by taking their main fortress of Brega
Had they enough money to keep the war going and werent distracted by France and Sweden, they might as well have pushed the war back into core lands of the Dutch.
While the siege of Breda was a great victory for the Spanish it was also the last (major) victory they had. They also couldn't really capitalize on the conquest of the city as you seem to think, because the Dutch put the city under great threat by capturing Grol (modern Groenlo), a city very close to it that prevented the Spanish from venturing further into the Dutch Republic.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think that the Dutch could've beaten the Spanish 1-on-1, but reconquering all of the Netherlands was an unrealistic goal at that point in time.
Without France the Nether lands could have never defeated the Spanish army. In fact the United Provinces were about to collapse after Nördlingen and the captured of the Palatinate by Spanish troops
The Spanish army was just under supplied. They never lost a major battle in 80 years against the Dutch and until Rocroi the United Provinces were very closed to be fully annexed
Nördlingen and Rocroi were at the end of the 80 Years War, when there were no serious prospect of a spanish reconquest anymore.
Nördlingen caused an almost unhindered french-dutch invasion of the Spanish Neitherlands a year later.
Rocroi happened when Katalonia and Portugal had declared independence from Spain and Naples and Andalusia were about to do the same, while the Swedes and French were freely raping the Habsburgs in Germany.
In both cases there was no spanish pressure on the Dutch Republic anymore
>All these salty catholicucks
Its been 370 years
You lost, get over it
Pal without the Swedes all the free imperial troops would have gone through the Palatinate. The United Provinces just got lucky when France bailed them out and until Rocroi the French were getting fucked (and the United Provinces mind you). Without France the United Provinces would have been crushed sooner rather than later
>Alba
>Ever defeated
Who won the war?
Initially the french were losing and even an offensive to Paris was planned, the spanish just waited too much to do the attack and the french reorganized the army and counterattacked. So saying that there were no serious prospect of a reconquest maybe it's saying too much, even more if you add the imperial troops.
