What's the best city to start a business in?

It all depends on the type of business, there is many factors that going into deciding where to open a business.

For example, if it is a manufacturing business, transport links and closeness to materials, suppliers and customers. Transport links in general is very important, if you have lots of staff you need a place where parking is cheap, if you have a business that takes large deliveries being in a city centre will not work because trucks will need constant access.

For business' that require skilled staff, opening in a city with a high concentration of other business' of that type is beneficial, so you have access to the best staff, London for a finance business, San Fran for tech, etc.

Open a restaurant in Kansas City because just about the only thing to do there is eat.

If its a Mexican restaurant you can see success here in LA. There's a lot of competition but more Mexicans come here every day. I've never seen a Mexican slopshop close.

If it's a good restaurant, Chicago is a decent bet if you open around Fulton Market. I just biked through there today and there's retail/restaurant space for sale a block from the Chicago Google office.
