Reds were supported more so by workers and soldiers than they were by the actual peasantry (who they robbed and conscripted). Not like the tsarists didn't do the same thing do

Part of the problem for the whites is that it was a very widely varying and disorderly movement. It was initially supported even by marxists who were not fond of the Bolsheviks and in fact had more popular support than them, like the socialist revolutionaries. But they got kicked out.

It had both republican and monarchistic inclinations even then. Mostly they wanted to kill Bolsheviks and keep the Russian Empire intact.

The main reason Allied forces occupied Arkhangelsk was out of fear it would fall or be ceded to German use in the First World War - all the Expedition did after that was just sit around and sell arms on the black market, because after WW1 ended no Western nation was in the mood for another war, let alone a land war in Russia

They sent soldiers and occupied cities.
Nowadays americans don't even teach this in schools, but there were american soldiers invading and occupying Siberia. Feet on the ground, taking objectives.

The support was very much real and very strong.

The Imperial Army did come very close to taking Paris.
Indeed, if they had had just abit more momentum behind them, they would have been able to isolate (and subsequently destroy) the BEF and then move into and capture Paris.

In hindsight however.
I think it is clear that the best option would have been to simply commit a few armies along the French-German border (purely defensively) and focus the vast majority of forces upon utterly crushing the Russians.

As it stands however, it is clear that the Kaiserreich was too pure for this world.
I can only cling to the hope that it will one day be re-established.

The Schlieffen Plan expected Belgium to surrender and Britain to remain neutral.
The conditions for it to be tried were never there, it was roughed into a situation it didn't fit.

Also, just by pure chance Russia was conducting war games near the German border about the time the escalation started, so instead of the old bear needing months to mobilize, it had an army set up first of any nation. They invaded Germany on the day they declared war.
