Daily commute to/from work = $25 in my area
$25*21 days of work per week = $525
Add in days when I have to drive somewhere for work (maybe 5) = another $125.
$650 a month to not have a car. That doesn't count grocery shopping, going out on weekends, etc. Just to and from work
Bought my car for $4k 9 years ago.
Insurance is $60/month. Gas is about $80 a month. Other maintenance about $30/month average
Total cost of car over 9 years = about $22k.
Cost if i had done taxis/uber over those 9 years and ONLY gone to work = $70k.
Even if I used metro for half of those trips, I'd still have spend an extra 10-15k. Having a reasonable care is worth.

Saved $50k over last 9 years.
