Is he the the most famous man in current times? You can go up to anyone over the age of 18 who lives in the western world (even other parts of the world as well), and there is a 99% chance that they will know who he is. The only people who wouldn't know who he is are indigenous tribesman who live out in some remote area that is cut off from the rest of the world.

Even trying to censor him and making it taboo to speak of his name, he is still well known. How is this possible? You can argue that he is more well known than modern celebrities.

A good candidate, OP. But I would suggest that no one is more well known than the Prophet Muhhamad (blessings and peace be upon him).

If we limited the competition to modern figures (only those that lived at some point in the last 100 years), I think the only ones that could even compete would be Michael Jackson and Mahatma Gandhi.

jesus and muhammad give him a run for his money. then mao, napoleon and ghandi are pretty big names, though a couple of them mainly because of their associated population numbers.

it's a blind guess, but religious prophets aside I might actually assume mao is more well-known, given that the west is more likely to be educated than the east, and hitler was a large part of western history. it may be more likely that people in the west know of mao than people in the east know of hitler.

not history, but unironically trump might be one of the most well-known names in the world due to massive global media controsversy, though I doubt this will extend into future generations.

america isn't that sizeable chunk of the world's population when compared to the part of the world affected by maoism, though. I'm thinking in terms of world population, which make me think that ghandi and mao might have hitler beat. but I won't pretend that I'm not just guessing.

and I doubt you'll find anyone but maybe some blacks or non-english speakers that don't know who napoleon is around here.
