Kathy Griffin is a piece of shit and deserved to lose her job, plain and simple. And I say that as a somebody who considers himself left-wing and supportive of Bernie Sanders.

No matter what your political affiliation, joking about the assassination of a sitting U.S. President is grossly poor taste. You're not only lowering the discourse by eschewing rational exchange, you're establishing a precedent that this might be "okay" and while the average person knows it's not, there might be somebody just crazy enough to do it. The kind of precedent this might set could potentially shatter America's fragile faith in its public institutions and lead to bitter, lasting conflict.

She is everything that is wrong with liberals in America: they're a bunch of entitled, vain yuppies who worship celebrities and consumer culture.

I'm fine when capitalism punishes conservatives for running their mouth, and I'm fine with capitalism punishing Kathy Griffin for posting some bullshit. If you have a problem with the person in the oval office, there's something you can do about it: get people off their ass to go vote.

Honestly, I wouldn't pigeonhole myself into a specific ideology because ultimately what I care about are results. IMO Marxism, at least in its orthodox interpretation, is riddled with problems when you try to apply it to real life situations. I would compare Marx's impact on humanities to Sigmund Freud's impact on psychology: the overwhelming majority of what was written was garbage and totally inapplicable to real life, but he got the ball rolling in his field. Before Freud nobody considered someone's mental state as a health issue, and before Marx nobody considered how society arranges labor

if I had to draw a line in the sand I'd call myself left-libertarian. I'm suspicious of too much concentration of political and economic capital, whether in the hands of robber barons or government bureaucrats, and think that a free market can only flourish when there are laws in place preventing either of those scenarios from happening

I think that guns are an American heritage and our martial spirit deserves to be preserved and celebrated, but sensible licensing reform means that we should be making it easier to do it the lawful way and more difficult to do it the unlawful way. Right now the system is prioritized to maximize the profits of gun-makers

I generally think that most economic functions are better left to a free market, but certain things are better provided using a centralized apparatus: military, police, infrastructure, education, and healthcare. I would call it capitalism reinforced with elements of socialism in order to mitigate each other's deleterious effects

There's probably a label for this, I just don't give a shit about the labels. those are tools that divide and categorize us. I would be in favor of an arrangement like where everybody makes a UBI and has government provided healthcare, education, and transportation, but in their jobs (which working-age adults would be required to have in order to draw state benefits) the employer only has to pay a portion of whatever money the worker brings to the company, with progressive taxes on carbon, capital gains, and income, while ending or significantly lowering taxes on corporations and homeowners. The goal of infrastructure spending would be to create new markets that the private sector can capitalize on, and the UBI would allow people to pursue apprenticeships and unpaid gigs in fields which they are genuinely passionate about, and thus bring more value to society than they would as some wagecuck

I support action to combat climate change because I consider it a national security issue, and true energy independence built around renewables is the only thing that'll let us escape the middle east. I don't think the problem is with the religion itself, but is the inevitable consequence of mixing politics with religion, and what Muslims are going through right now is comparable to what Europe went through in the early modern era, when it mixed politics and religion for similar results

I would also point to the three largest metropolitan areas in the country, and note that the one with the most violent crime is also the most heavily segregated, and that when you put children young enough from a bunch of different races in a room together, they'll get along just fine without making any issue of each other's race at all, which is why I tend to believe that race is a social construct, a sort of promoted tribalism meant to sow division within the proletariat by moneyed interests who profit from the discord (which you get on both sides of the aisle) and that by supporting the rights of one we are supporting the rights of all against the machinations of the unscrupulous few
