for oil companies its like a race to see who can get to the bottom first. they do everything they possibly can do to make there situation worse. its the american oil producers decision to make more and more wells opec doesnt tell these dumbasses to make more wells do they? why do you guys think saudi arabia has been trying to sell some of there oil and gas interests? because the industry is fucked.

Long term, yes. Obviously we're moving towards electric and alternative fuel.

Short term, when OPEC decides to control their output and "fix the market", American producers stand to gain as the price of oil barrels rises (so their stock will jump)

When OPEC floods the market again it kills the barrel price and American/Canadian companies are kind of fucked again

It's ping ponged like this for the last 6 years or so (since shale and tar sands production became profitable and American firms could compete even though they have less well deposits to count on)

also once Venezuela folds and they are no longer producing anything you're going to see a jump in revenue across the board for everyone else
