That book was great. Can't recommend it enough.

Had to read it for a World History class. Due to seeing the documentary first, I wasn't caught off guard by what I read.

I'd recommend dozen episode long documentary series called "Soviet storm: ww2 in the east"

It's producer uploaded all episodes on YouTube in HD

I was amused by it because there was almost no Russian bias like in other Russian films.

My fav historical doco.

You might be put off by the setting, but I really enjoyed this series on servants in England

Edwardian England must have had some incredibly clean houses

Anybody got anything on the Holy Roman Empire

Too bad that a lot of documentaries, especially about the events of modern history are biased and cannot be trusted. Sometimes even in documentaries about very distant historical eras, such as antiquity, the film will try to push their message (like the narrative that "look, the reason Rome fell was because they failed to properly integrate the barbarians" = i.e. "EU will also fall if they won't care more about the refugees" etc.), instead of remaining strictly unbiased. Or how Christianity is always blamed for Crusades, excesses of the inquisition and conquests, but hardly anyone dares to equally criticize Islam, the jihad and their slave trade. The only difference is how subliminal or blatant is the narrative.
The contribution of actual historians will be edited and only those parts that agree with director's agenda will remain in the final cut.
