What really is the difference ideologically between the two? Seems like really all you're choosing is what language you want to speak when you're sitting in the trench.
Both France and Germany look better with Alsace-Lorraine controlled by France, otherwise they just look like blobs.

I'm guessing that you didn't know Portugal joined the Aliies and their troops had a *really* shit time on the western front. Because they didn't have as many men as Britain or France they couldn't afford to rotate them as frequently, so if you were in the Portuguese army in 1918 you could literally be stuck at the front line for weeks or even months
A chance to contribute to ending the war sooner, costing less lives, resources, and infrastructure and generally making Europe a fairer and better place.

Entente was only a means of getting the established order to alleviate some colonial tension between themselves.
And even then they further divied up the world between them.
