Veeky Forums video games

What are some Veeky Forums approved games?
I've been having some free time lately so I picked up Ultimate General: Civil War. It's fucking great. There's some bugs and weird shit (it's still in testing phase), but completely playable, and also the best AI I ever saw in a video game.

Banished with Colonial mod installed, very fun and challenging city builder

It's fun saving your heavily inbred villagers from certain death of starvation and freezing

I only play EU4 because I'm a brainlet, I tried to get into VIcky2 but it's too autism I had no idea what was happening

Hearts of iron 3 is supercomfy once you get the hang of it

Hearts of Iron 4 is good if you don't want to spend half your time micromanaging every detail of your troops.

I love Vicky 2 but the economics is fucked

Darkest Hour will always be the best HOI experience, HOI3 tried to be way too much and was tally fucked on launch and even with all the patches I've seen stupid shit like Japan getting annexed by China in 1937
Vicky 1 is even more fucked, the economy makes no sense

Age of Empires series

does the colonial mod fix the end game in this? cause every time I play this, i reach a point late-game where im just building for the sake of building

Brigadier General Donor reporting in

I'm really enjoying my ERE campaign in Attila right now. About to send 3 legions to the east to secure lumber for siege weapons.

RTW is still my favourite battle game. I really dislike the new games campaign map, so cluttered and hard to see wtf is going on.Never really liked Medieval 2 either.
Also, I played the new ones and I don't like what they've done to generals and the family tree, as well as the battles. AI might be better but the battles are less fun imo
Haven't tried warhammer though, is it any good?
Other good Veeky Forums games:
>Victoria 2
>EU Rome
>EU III
>HoI DH
>Caesar III and the others classic citybuilders
>Red Orchestra 2
>Mount and Blade NW

Don;t buy Warhammer, it's a shell and they're already making a sequel, you can't even play as a proper Bretonian

bretonia was released for free some weeks ago mate

My computer died months ago
Brets must have dropped in the first few months of the year

youre right famalam it was released end of february

I really want to buy it espesally becase its on sale now but the reviews are all over the place, most in the negative.
Would you recommend to a Civ 5 kinda guy? Also I want to buy this but should I wait until its finished?

The reviews are negative because some people threw a shitfit after a price increase, the actual game's pretty good, and yeah, for a civ 5 dude it'd be great.

>but the reviews are all over the place, most in the negative
In general, with all Paradox games you have to ask yourself a question. Am I prepared to dump a lot of money on DLC to have a complete and very good game?

Yeah, I can't make any sense of it, but once you start to get a sense for the fucked way it works, the game gets fucking easy.

Still love Vicky 2.

Does this game still have hoarders who will take up all the food and starve everyone else? That always pissed me off in the early game since you have to have basically everyone working at food production at that stage.

Wargame series... just ignore the fact Canada is fighting Poland in Korea

>Still no Skaven
>Have to buy the sequel for another $60 to play as them
Seriously, fuck Creative Assembly

I could never get into M2 because the fort/city system feels like it gimps you too hard to be fun compared to Rome 1 or the later games

Hearts of Iron IV, but only with the Kaiserreich mod.

>Hearts of Iron 4 is good

DH>HoI3>shit>HoI4
DH also has Kaiserreich so you can't use that excuse for HoI4

I could never get into Rome 1, because the battles are arcadey nonsense that are over in a few seconds.

Napoleon is the most quality Total War title in terms of simulation. It has a few problems, but with a gentlemanly agreement to limit artillery and not snipe the other guy's general with said artillery, it is the best experience.

Fuck you, yes I can.

RTW is the eternal GOAT Imperator!

Historical scenario battles were the best

vicky 2 is pretty good

Any idea where i could get ceasar 3 or pharaoh. I used to play the shit out of them as a kid.

think caesar 3 is on steam, as well as on gog (think the others are too)
you can also just pirate them

Thanks. I never really got how to pirate games, i'd try to read guide and it would just confuse the fuck out of me.

have fun. there are mods to run them in widescreen 1080p, which is far better than native

What do you guys think of Operation Star? Picked it up on sale this week and it's a pretty cool game.

Pretty much the best tactical simulation we have for modern battles, but it's still bad in terms of AI and recon. UI also sucks hard, but that was improved in Mius Front.

I've played like 300 hours of HoI4. Base game is already pretty good in my opinion, and they've patched out most of the autistic stuff you had to do to play on release. Plus there's a lot of mod support that make minor countries more interesting, and allow for alternate maps/scenarios which extend the life of the game a bit more. I would recommend it. It's much simpler than EU4, but since it's a Paradox game, expect to spend a good deal of time learning how to play. None of the DLC is necessary so far.

anyone play Naval Action? i got it and tried it a bit but i find it confusing and have no idea how to progress even with tutorial vids
great cold war/modern titles, good taste

I don't actually find the ui that terrible but that's probably cause I don't know how to fully play yet. Also yeah the AI just totally falls apart when an engagement takes place between units less than say 50 metres apart.

>tfw no China Total war.
>tfw no China in CK2.
>tfw china mechanics for all of PDS games suck.

China in CK2 would be a fucking mistake. India fucked the games performance and it wasn't until Reapers due that the game got fixed, but China would just make the game completely shit itself due to all the new characters and provinces

But Hoi4 isn't complete or good even with all dlcs the ai is completely broken 20% of the features are broken anyone playing this pile of shit for more than 10 hrs deserves to get shot and has no idea what a good game looks like.

Play Hoi3 bice or Darkest Hour

This is such a criminally underrated game.

turn duchies into counties and counties into baronies in terms of gameplay dynamics, problem solved

gog.com

the best place to get any game because no DRM, refunds, and free extra content, and they publish working versions of old as fuck games.

Whats M2TW is really missing is actual feudal politics where settlements can be given to generals as rewards and become hereditary possessions that specialize in military activities, sort of like it was historically instead of this stupid system where you can just shuffle around governors and change settlement types on a whim.

>Naval action

OH GOD DON'T REMIND ME

THIS USED TO BE SO GOOD BUT THE DEVS ABSOLUTELY SHIT THE BED AND NOW ITS AN UNPLAYABLE GRINDFEST

I MISS IT TO THIS VERY DAY OH GOD

THE BATTLES WERE SOOOO GOOOOOOOOOD

There needs to be a Medieval version of Nobunaga's Ambition + Kessen I.

Civ 4 with RFC mods is great, not something historical like paradox titles, but if you are into turn-based strategies certainly worth a look.

>make the game shallower
For what purpose though?

Just put clergy everywhere to get literacy up, focus on techs that give you research points, then research whatever you need (industry or army/navy). Try to have smallest tariffs possible. Dont tax capitalists (so they build factories) you're set.

I don't think anyone actually knows how the economy in Vicky 2 works.
People know how to exploit it, and what strategies seem to produce results, but nobody knows how or why it works.
Its a black box.

P U R E I D E O L O G Y

Gettysburg was better. Noticeably better AI, fewer bugs, campaigns were less arbitrary, and it had multiplayer. Despite the massive scale increase, Civil War is a huge mechanical downgrade.

I always get a late game economic crash.

>People know how to exploit it, and what strategies seem to produce results, but nobody knows how or why it works.
Just like real life.

>Dont tax capitalists (so they build factories) you're set.
More like always choose to build ridiculous retarded shit that will never make money.

Are you playing ranked?

high tariffs and state capitalism works far better, the ai are braindead and build clipper shipyards in 1920

Exactly this. Vicky 2 actually taught me that le magical hand of free market is bullshit.

Zeus was objectively the best city builder.

Sea Dogs 2
was a pretty good colonial era naval sim

its main mod "Build" made it worth to replay again. The Build mod is in v.14.4 I think

Pharaoh > Zeus

fact. fite me faggot

Really? AI in this game is among the best I ever saw, I never tried Gettysburg.
My only real complaints are details like unrealistic casualties (they actually call them "killed", and 40-50,000 men didn't die in ACW battles), and artillery is kinda underwhelming, but then again I read that artillery only caused around 10% casualties in ACW.

ck2 is alright but the borders look very wierd the longer the games last

Anyone played valiant hearts?

>Not going Laissez-Faire for the enormous factory throughput bonus
>Caring about what Capitalists build late-game
Lemaoing at you folk.

Almost like real life

Emperor > Zeus & Poseidon >> Pharaoh = Caesar III (same game tbqh) >>>>> Caesar IV

Rome is shit.

>ITS AN UNPLAYABLE GRINDFEST
played it for a couple days and does feel that way, i literally have no idea what to do desu but i really love naval warfare in the napoleonic era and wish there was a game i could control a 3rd rate ;^;

So no DLC is what I understand.
Should I get the very basic cadet version or the Colonel version for 5 bucks extra?

>Mount and blade warband NW
SONS OF THE HOUND COME HERE AND GET FLESHED

Total War: Warhammer.

Seriously though, Empire would have to be the most Veeky Forums of all the TW games.

>not managing all of your factories like an autist

Just get Hearts of Iron 3 with its expansions or Darkest Hour. Both excel in different areas but are much much better than 4.

looks like a comfy stock screener, certainly triggers my autism

t. faggot who plays with money cheat

How the fuck?

great game mechanics, realistic strategy and fun MP. I second this. the new IDF faction is OP as fuck because ZOG but I really respect their attention to detail

haven't been for a while now, but I could get back into it. steam?

This, state capitalism allowed me to conquer the world with argentina in the XIX century, truly the best time line.

The economy is not hard to figure out at all.
The problem is that money ends up being worthless in the game as it is too easy to come by. A game that is supposed to be about industry becomes a game of who has the largest population to kill the other, as there is no benefit for huge amounts of gold

Mods can fix it.

Through money sinks, or an overhauled economics system?

Just get more of dem programs if you think you have too much money.

>Try to have the smallest tariffs possible.
Are you retarded?

What is it that you do not understand?

Money is important in a way though. You want your pops to have enough of it so that they can live comfortable lives and not turn into socialists.

Fukken this.

RFC for Civ V and VI when

Any tips to begin playing EU or CK? I don't know what to do.

Alt + F4
then uninstall

Neither are very complex

Gonna be a bit contrarian on this one. Mostly because instead of a video game based on history, I have two that use *applied* history

Kicking it old-school, the Genso Suikoden JRPG series involves learning about neighboring countries. The pinnacle would be the last game in the series, Suikoden V, that has a lot of naked politics playing before your eyes.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is also great because you have to navigate various cultures in the now as well as get some basic understanding of the ancient Dwemer culture

too much money bro

I used to own 2 4th rates, a 3rd rate and 2nd rate, worked hard to capture those.

Now they're all gone, I can't capture new ones and don't wanna sit around idly sailing the caribean for trade-materials to build one.

The dream is dead senpai. The game's fucked and the devs have no intention (and probably no means) to turn it back the way it was before the last patch hit.

>The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is also great because you have to navigate various cultures in the now
Those cultures in game are so shallow though, better off just reading shit at the Imperial Library than actually playing the game for that

I miss the days of CK2 where you could play a /comfy/ noble vassal and relax building a modest dynasty. I want more comfy nobility simulators.

>Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
Not only is it not Veeky Forums related, but the cultural lore and writing is so eye blindingly shitty I don't even know where to begin. Try at least Witcher 3 instead, there's a much deeper cultural development than "these guys have pointy ears and love eating potatoes".

Skyrim and Elder Shit games in general have probably the worst writing I've ever seen in a major RPG.
