An EU army for what exactly? do they expect Russia to invade western Europe or some shit like that? not gonna happen in today's world, and if it by some strange happenings it did, all of western europe would fight back anyways. Peace Missions in foreign countries? the UN already has that covered. Terrorists from the middle east? you dont need an army to fight that, unless you actually plan to invade that part of the world. So what am I missing? what purpouse exactly would this "EU Army" serve?

Tighten the bond between EU nations and lighten the weight of german defense budget by offloading on others.
You could argue it would allow Europe to be less strongly aligned with american policy, so strengthening EU diplomacy.
