Got $25000 in a savings account that I'm using as a way to save for a house (1-2 years from now). I get 1.15% APY on that cash. But I'm losing money to inflation. So I'm contemplating putting it into a collection of bond ETFs because this is separate from my stock portfolio and this money is risk averse.
Namely, using $AGG as the core holding (~50%) and then using:
$SLQD (15%) to increase exposure to IG Corporate bonds and $SHYG (15%) to gain exposure to the high yield space. Both are short duration funds, so they also serve to lower my average maturity which will limits interest rate risk.
Would put the remaining (10%) in $TIP and $FLOT to hedge inflation and interest rate risk.

There are some higher interest savings accounts out there through prepaid cards. They offer 5% APY and are FDIC insured but its a pain in the ass to set them up and get the money in.
