One thing I find so curious about medieval music is it seems like bagpipes (or a version of them) are ubiquitous. Did bagpipes become unpopular in the Renaissance or something?
>Mine is Medieval music
Agree. Medieval music is based man.

>Did bagpipes become unpopular in the Renaissance or something?
Hell if i know. The Renaissance seemed to dislike everything about the Medieval times.
But you at least notice the trend I'm mentioning, right?
Yes, i guess. Bagpipes may just went out of fashion in the Renaissance.

Medieval music is fairly hit or miss imo.
bagpipes only went out of fashion in art music and church music, but it wasn't bagpipes specifically but more like any droning instrument went out of fashion as polyphony developed
peasants and their folk music all over europe used bagpipes into the 19th century and by the 20th century folk music as a concept was dying out so now people just associate it with scotland and scandinavia despite the instrument existing all over europe possibly since before the Romans

the link you posted is like if someone called game of thrones "historical drama"
Fun fact user. That song you posted was written by king Richard the Lionheart himself, look it up if you don't believe me. Man was a terrible king but a fine musician and military commander.

Bulgarian folk song XIVth century, recorded in sheet music in the XVIIth century.
Translation:
Since when mother o' mine
has the sun dawned
sweet mother o' mine, since when
Since then mother o' mine
the army has marched
sweet mother o' mine, the army has marched
Horse to the horse, sweet mother o' mine
Brave man to the brave man
sweet mother o' mine, brave man, next to the brave man
Brave man next to the brave man, mother o' mine
Spear upon a spear
sweet mother o' mine, spear upon a spear
Their spears, sweet mother o' mine
like a lush forest
sweet mother o' mine like a lush forest
Their sabres, sweet mother o' mine
bright like the sun
sweet mother o' mine, bright like the sun
Their chainmail, sweet mother o' mine
like a dark cloud
sweet mother o' mine like a dark clop
Oh how they ride, sweet mother o' mine
like strong wing
sweet mother o' mine, like a strong wing
Their warlord, sweet mother o' mine
Tzar Ivan Shishman
Sweet mother o' mine Tzar Ivan Shishman
To the fight he leads them,
to the fight he leads them
for Bulgarian name,
To the fight he leads them,
to the fight he leads them
for the faith of Christ.
Who did they fight?

Bulgarians shouldn't disrespect their parents like that.
Funny you should say it since the Bulgars existed before Islam
Bulgarians aren't quite the same thing as Bulghars.
And Ottomans aren't quite the same as Turkic people so dump the "father and mother" of civilization shizzle
I'm not that user I'm just saying don't conflate Bulgarians with the Turkic Volga Bolghars.
