Operation Uranus made me a soviet-boo

it's kind of a weird thing but ever since seeing one in a museum as a kid I have been a boo for large caliber anti air artillery, especially the insanely aesthetic german flak family, my favourite is of course the 12,8cm version, but I do generally love the coincidence that an anti air cannon ends up being one of the most capable anti tank gun of the entire war.
Which kinda begs the question why even in 1936 when the 88 entered service, no one raised the question if the current amount of armor or armament on tanks might be insufficient.

They hadn't fought massed strong armor like the russians fielded theirs. France was too pussy and fucked by doctrine to use their superior armor correctly. It took the kv to scare german command into action

Spent last weekend at the museums at Stockholm. Getting a different view of Sweden than "look how many brown dicks I can fit in my rectum" really made me appreciate the country a whole lot more. Easily spent an hour just looking at and reading about the captured banners from the great northern war.

actually the Matilda and Char-B2 had shown them that their current purpose built AT guns were insufficient and they had to upgrade to long 75 eventually, but they also had an immensely capable cannon right under their noses the whole time and didn't think to utilize it earlier, while it would go on to crack allied tanks all the way to 45, with only a few examples like the IS-2 having the frontal armor to withstand it.

Romaboo. 3 years of Latin took its toll on me, so then I had to keep on going for another 3. Plus, republican & early imperial rome is generally pretty aesthetic, their military tactics put at least somewhat of an emphasis on engineering, and I just generally like sound of Latin and its grammatical constructions.

Only directly war related museum I had time for was the Swedish army museum. Their modern exhibits were rather uninteresting, but the older exhibits of the 18th and 17th century were great.
