Actually it's allowed in many western countries to eat dog. In USA for example personal consumption of dog is allowed but you can't sell dogmeat.

In Canada it is allowed to eat and sell if the dog is slaughtered in a regulated manner

That said, pigs are pretty smart unlike cows and chickens, so they don't get a pass in this regard, but dogs and monkeys and dolphins are highly intelligent creatures with an array of emotions.
Another reason is dogs are domesticated not for the purpose of food, so the meat isn't very good, and it's pretty fucked up to spend 1,000s of years domesticating an animal as a companion but use it as livestock instead.
And monkeys are closely related to humans, so it's sorta like feeding a turkey chicken. It's not quite cannibalism, but it makes you think OF cannibalism, which makes it awkward.
