Let's say humanity becomes a space-faring civilization with faster-than-light travel. If we were to encounter a civilization that is more primitive than ours, perhaps at a caveman stage of existence, would it be morally justified to enslave them in a Columbus-style manner?
Let's assume three different situations:
(i): We know for a fact we are the dominant species in the galaxy
(ii): We know for a fact that we are NOT the dominant species in the galaxy and, in fact, more violent, Columbian-representing empires exist that seek to destroy us for our natural resources
(iii): This is our first contact with another alien species and we are unsure of whether others exist that may or may not be dominant to us
The morality of xenoslavery
Enslave them all desu
It would seem an incredibly stupid move in almost anu scenario. The possibility of meeting a less advanced species and bot already having everything automated is slim. The only thing another speciws wouldbw good for is starting the very begeining of colony in their solar system. The more logical choices are
>genocide so they can never become a threat
>observation and destruction of any spacecraft so they may never become a threat
>full integration so that their perspectices may help to enrich and broaden the space empire.
I mean, even on an efficiency level it seems like slavery would be a huge investment. We'd become reliant on alien labor, when at that point we'd probably be mechanized, and we'd also risk some alien being smart enough to realize they can sabotage a supply chain or start a slave revolt, which would deprive us of resources I'd imagine we'd need to stop some massive space Columbus
Which of those three options would be most morally acceptable? Genociding them, keeping them contained, our integrating them into our civilization?
Honestly it would most likely be genocide. It sounds cruel but the damagw advanced spacefaring species can do is enormous. It would be in our best interests to ensure no one else gets there. Especially if tech begins to platue. The only reason not would be if it pissed off a current spacefarring species.
>help to enrich and broaden the space empire.
>tfw can't even escape cultural enrichment in literal galactic empires
why live
Well I mean its possible they could think about problems in ways that are impossible for humans to do.
>The only reason not would be if it pissed off a current spacefarring species.
At that point it sort of becomes Pascal's wager, doesn't it?
It could be. But there is a lot of evidence that advanced lif doesnt exist in this galaxy. And also there is a good cjance that they agree with us about genocide and the only reason they havent attacked us is the difficulty of attacking advanced space faring species and the risk of retaliation. We have a little too much info for it to be a Pascals Wager.
