On the other hand, during both invasions into the North, Lee's armies actively sought and captured blacks, both freedmen and freeborn, to sell them on Southern slave markets. Additionally, CSA refused to recognize captured black US soldiers as POW and treated them all as runaway slaves, while treating white officers in charge of black units as instigators of slave uprisings, a crime punishable by death. I would say these are somewhat closer to actual war crimes.

Lincoln wasn't even on southern voting ballots and was a literal who to them. They didn't know who this guys was or where he came from but he was going to be in charge of them and change how they lived. They didn't like that so they seceded.

But as much as 1/3 either owned a slave or had someone in the family who owned a slave. I.e. if a plantation owner had 9 adult sons who lived on profits from the plantation, you can't just say only 1/10 of them owned slaves, even if it was technically true. Besides, you don't have to own a slave to benefit from a slave-run economy, just like you don't have to own heavy machinery yourself to benefit from industrialization.
