Why have these countries failed to unite?
Many of the countries have been united in unions before multiple times in various forms, but they never lasted. Even today there is a somwhat small group which aims for unification of the countries.
So why have they failed to unite?

Who would be the leader in a union of those countries? Where would the capital be? Also, don't forget that Finland was a part of Sweden for a long time and probably wouldn't want to be tied to them again.
Because Sweden is as large as 2 of the rest 3 combined. And everybody agrees Sweden is ass while not having any animosity towards each other.
All of them hate Sweden. Sweden left the union first, then broke the union and stole Norway. Finland got spat out of Sweden and most likely doesn't want to unite with it again.

Uniting the countries under one flag wouldn't really add anything when you can just cooperate instead.
Finland has nothing to do with the others.
Swedes and Danes have a history of oppressing Norwegians.
When they were unified under the Kalmar union a big part of why they split up was becuase Denmark was interested in territory in the south and Sweden was more interested in the east.
After they split up there was really no hope of them ever uniting again.
And today it would litterally be pointless to unite. You don't need a huge military, you can do international trade and Sweden is so fucking cucked beyond belief that it would ruin the other countries completely to share a government with them.

There were some small talks about a union like EU during the cold war but soviet union basically said fuck you to that so those talks ended. EU basically replaced the plan anyway.

Finland is more intrested having a strong union with the other scandinavian countries to distance itself from Russia. The less economically reliant it is on Russia the better since Russia is a known exploiter.
Finns have a historical aversion for their western neighbours.

Finland has had extremely favourable trade relations with Russia/USSR though. The recession in the early 1990s hit Finland hard because the industry geared towards Soviet export market collapsed at the same time.

That was during USSR times, when their main strategy to keep their neighbors happy was to just give them good trade deals so theyd have to be retarded to start trouble. These days they are more exploitive capilatists who start putting the screws on anyone thats too reliant on them. Especially old exsoviet states.

we have the Nordic Council, which includes Iceland and Finland
and we can move into each other's lands with very little hustle
Sweden is not a part of NATO though, so that is a problem for many
