Lebanese Maronites were the allies of the Jews and have been for decades, even though it's a low level thing.

Basically there used to be a Maronite-Jewish axis that was "right wing" in nature. Maronites got swamped by the Muslims and Leftists but Jews managed to keep their borders in tact.

Beirut actually used to be a top tier city. Financial capital or the Middle East. Similar to what Dubai is today but without the oil wealth which is saying a lot because that means the people generating the wealth there were actually competent and not buoyed by black stuff pumped out the ground.

Lebanon is a French colonial relic that was supposed to be part of Syria, but the French decided to make it's own country for the French colonials and Christians there. All power was put on the hands of a few Falangist Christians. It was basically an Apartheid state that discriminated based on Religion. The Shia, Sunni, and Druze didn't like getting the lower end of the stick and demanded the end of Falangist rule, which ended in a sectarian civil war. Falangists formed Right-Wing death squads that targeted Palestinian refugee camps and allied with Israel in an attempt to maintain their rule. The Falangist's alliance with Israel was the straw that broke the Camel's back. Every Muslim group by then formed their own militias to defend themselves against the Falangists. Hafez Al-Assad (Father of Bashar Al-Assad) invaded the country and his forces didn't leave until 2005 to make sure the Falangists are checked. That's why today every Palestinian regardless of sect and religion fights for Assad. Today Lebanon has a system that makes sure every Religious group is included in government. The president must be Christian, The Prime Minister must be Sunni, and the speaker of the parliament must be Shia. That's just the central government though. In reality though the central government is decentralized and every group controls it's own territory. Hezbollah controls southern and north eastern Lebanon where the Shias are majority. Sunnis control north western Lebanon and Christians control western Lebanon. The central government only really controls the capital Beirut.

Leb Christians need to stop bitching. Christians constitute only about a third of the Lebanese population, they are allocated 50 % of the seats in both Parliament and the cabinet. In addition, Maronite Christians are entitled to exclusively occupy all key state positions: only a Maronite Christian can become president of the republic or head of the army, the Central Bank and the Supreme Court.
