Yes.

>effects of the information revolution still bouncing around
>unclear international power dynamics
>political uncertainty everywhere

I'd compare it to the 1900-1910 interval.

That's scary dude. What if another major war broke out.

Then a lot of people would die.

Like in the high 8 low 9 digits worth of them.

I'm honestly more worried of China making the planet go full 1984 and the US and Europe being too fucked with internal problems to stop it.

Fuck, I live pretty close to China's border. I don't want them ruining my comfy life.

>China making the planet go full 1984
>China
you wot m8

I'm suspicious of what will happen if China eclipses the US as the world's most powerful nation.

The last two times a dictatorship gained enough power to compete with the republics on the world stage, it resulted in millions of deaths and fucked everything up.

Even if it doesn't trigger a full-on war or a widespread collapse of democracy, a new cold war between the Chinese "managed democracy" bloc and the west would devastate a large amount of the world.

What is the safest place to be in the next twenty years?

China's pollution and poaching is a bigger nuisance.

>China
>dictatorship
No. What will happen is that Western dominance/manipulation of the world's economies will decline as China continues to open its markets to the rest of the world. At some point they won't even need us anymore; in a few generations China could modernize and educate Africa and completely change the world's centers of economic power. They don't need to do anything to us directly, they just need to be superior and degenerate, spoiled Westerners will eat themselves between xenophobia and class-warfare.

Probably Australia.

Nobody is going to bother to fuck with Australia.

I mean, except for the drop bears.

who the fuck is feeding these fat cunts

>aboriginal australian working as a barkeep in china with a high pitched whiny voice

Holy shit I forgot Australia existed. Is it the comfiest continent of all? Was it even affected by WW2?

Except China has no desire to be meme world police.

They only care about their irredentionist claims and to make a buck.

nigga if you want some, just say it

Safety from what? Violence? Foreign invasion? Economic depression?
Not really. The USA pollutes FAR more on a per capita basis. All the while, China sacrifices a tiny bit of health for an absolutely exploding economy and a position of dominance on the global scale. In 50 years when solar is cheap and plentiful enough, and when China produces all the high quality goods and imports cheap parts from the up-and-rising African miracle in Cameroon or Ghana, they can outsource their pollution.

>Holy shit I forgot Australia existed. Is it the comfiest continent of all? Was it even affected by WW2?
They were the first whites to be thrown into the Japanese torture camps. "Comfy"
Pretty much this. Making a buck does mean becoming the meme world economic superpower though.

They got bombed a couple times by the Japanese, but the Japanese sucked at bombing compared to Anglos, and the Americans chased them off.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_raids_on_Australia,_1942–43

The one big problem with Australia is that they went full "no fun allowed" mode.

There's a bunch of weird restrictions on guns, porn, and vidya, and you can get put in jail for hate speech if you hurt somebodies feelings.

Also, they're a member of ANZUS, so there's a small chance that in a world war, a power would launch ICBMs at US or Australian military installations. I read a report by Australian military intelligence in the 80s basically going "the Soviets could nuke us, but ICBMs don't grow on trees and there's more important stuff to bomb elsewhere"

You might be marginally safer in New Zealand.

I don't trust this.

To give one example, China keeps threatening to invade Taiwan, which the US is bound by law to defend. Bam, there's one potential WW3 right there.

Their economic exclusion zone is the entire South China Sea, and they're picking fights with more than a dozen different countries to get that shit.

If present trends are any indication, the Chinese would use their power even more shamelessly than the US does.

Taiwan and the Paracel Islands are both rightful Chinese clay.

Also
>even more shamelessly than the US does.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Action_in_the_Gulf_of_Sidra_(1986)

>Libya claimed that the entire Gulf was their territory, at 32° 30' N, with an exclusive 62 nautical miles (115 km) fishing zone.[1]
>Territorial waters or a territorial sea, as defined by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,[1] is a belt of coastal waters extending at most 12 nautical miles (22.2 km; 13.8 mi) from the baseline (usually the mean low-water mark) of a coastal state

TALK SHIT GET HIT

>United Nations
>objective and fair
All my keks. What do you think would happen if Russian ships patrolled the Gulf of Mexico, 13 miles off the coast of Texas or Florida? Or Chinese ships just off of Hawaii, let alone California?

Pic related is your answer

Russia flies bombers into NATO airspace routinely though.

But yeah, if you aren't legally right, you don't have the muscle to back it up, and you don't have any powerful friends, don't start a fight.

If nobody put these cocksuckers down there'd be tin-pot dictators all over the world trying to steal more ocean.

You don't think its North Korea we should be worried about? All of this is just bothsides blowing steam?

I mean, it's entirely possible that North Korea could kill millions or tens of millions of people with a spergout. It wouldn't be very smart of them, but very few of the events you see in history books were caused by people being smart.

But that's child's play compared to the shit that China could do if they really wanted to, and if nobody stopped them.

I'm hoping that one out of these three things happens

>China democratizes
>India steps up to the plate
>the EU steps up to the plate

But even one out of three sounds too optimistic to happen.

After China, my biggest long term worry is oligarchs and multinational corporations sucking the US and Western Europe dry from the inside out.

Actually, I'm pretty sure that scares me more than China.

So the solution is move to China?

China is not a dictatorship. They change leaders every 8 years or whatever.
Jesus Americans are retarded.

>Imlying those leaders don't stay the same most of the time

>Are we living in interesting times?

Contrary to what many think, we are not. People tend to exaggerate modern conflicts and power struggles, while in fact today the whole planet is safer and more wealthy than ever. Of course wars happen here and there, but that's nothing comparable to 20th century. In fact, wars between major industrial nations are becoming pretty unthinkable. Not only because of MAD, but also insane costs of wars fought with modern equipment. Just look how Russia overstreched herself in Ukraine, and Ukraine is by all accounts a failed state. What would happen if the war was, let's say, against Poland instead of Ukraine? Surely, Russia would won, but the war would bleed them white.

Today we are witnessing a shift in Western countries' political scenes. The old distinction between Left and Right becomes meaningless with the rise of parties that combine some elements of both. How will it play out in the end still remains to be seen, but that's still nothing comparable to political shifts that were happening in 19th (rise of nationalism) and 20th (fascism, communism, Christian democracy, socialism etc) centuries.

sure we do
A very different question is if this is a good time to be alive or not, and that depends on who you ask
do you want just to survive with no aspirations whatsoever to aim high? I will probably get laughed at, but Spain is a decent place for that. irrelevant enough to be out of most shitstorms and comfy and 1st world enough to live an OK life

>the whole planet is safer and more wealthy than ever
>not interesting

This.

t. Irrelevant Spaniard.

I was wrong, it's two terms of five years each.
