It was about at most about 50k-as many troops as an empire could manage at this point in history- and they were all professional soldiers.

This was the professional army built by Cyrus the Great, the army that brought down the assyrian empire and took its place. We dont know exact details but they were the most professional army in the world at the time, thats why they were the aggressors and the favorites to win. This was one of the first massive sea invasions in history, you need some serious professionalism to move 50k troops across the sea into a foreign continent at this point in history.

The only innovation the spartans introduced was on the individual level, the actual tactics were identical to other greek states, they were just better at it until the thebans came along, actually changed the tactics, and won because of those tactics (the tactic in question is the concept of extremely deep formations that could push through smaller ones, just like Philip's pike phalanx. Almost like he got the idea from the thebans.
