By taking regular breaks and drinking lots of water.

Plate and leather/lamellar armour doesn't get as hot under the sun as you might think. The plate sits well above the body, and with layers of cloth between the metal and the skin actually cools pretty well, in the same way that berbers and bedouins wear thick layers of loose cloth to provide shade from the sun, rather than to insulate.

The worst armour to wear however is mail. In hot sun that shit is murder, as it hangs heavily onto the skin, preventing any airflow, and compressing any clothes, while providing no shielding layer, causing the clothes to heat up under direct sunlight.

Wearing a coat of mail under a hot sun is one of the most unpleasant things, your shoulders end up burning and in agony, plate on the other hand is generally not that unpleasant, especially if it is loose or segmented as they allow for more airflow (segmentata is great for this).

By using superior weapons and not failing for the plate meme

why did middle easterners even bother with mail then? Why anyone bothered with mail? From your description it sounds like it would be better to just invest only in helmet and a shield

Because not dying is more important than being comfortable.

I would rather die than wear skinnyjeans.

They wore surcoats and left spaces so air can pass by the skin.

>charge
>throw a jav, break a spear
>turn around
>servant splashes water on me
>gives me new jav and spear
>have a drink
>maybe get some injuries looked at or change horse
>form for another charge

>Armenia
>hot climate
I hope you mean Iranian cataphracts who actually routinely fought in deserts and high heat/humidity areas all the time. Armenia is pretty mountainous and mild compared to Iran and the Near East in general.

As long as you keep your head cool you're unlikely to get a heatstroke.

people used to be physically fit, once upon a time

this is a hollywood lie, back then they were all fat or skinny

God was on their side.

But middle easteners wore mail all the time.

Pretty sure he just meant cataphracts in general.

Air conditioning, the technology was lost with the fall of Constantinople

you are weak. this kind of weakness is why we were able to reconquer the holy land

Why did Armenia even spec into heavy cavalry?
They're like 99% mountains.

YOLO

Armenians were the biggest force in the Parthian and Persian empires' militaries after the Iranians themselves. Also Zoroastrian Armenians wanted another likely cultural and political tie with their Iranian kinsmen. The Armenian cataphracts were highly prized by the Iranians, they were good horsemen.

Why would you WALK like a fucking PEASANT if given any other option? Fuck terrain, you're rich.

Amen.

In mountainous areas, most people live in relatively flat valleys
