Leviticus 19:13, 18

Leviticus 19:13, 18
>You shall not oppress your neighbour...but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the Lord.

Deuteronomy 24:19–22
>When you reap in your harvest in the field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it...When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over the boughs again...When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the sojourner, the fatherless and the widow. You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this.

Psalms 82 (81): 3, 4
>Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

Isaiah 1:15–17
>Even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood...cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Ecclesiastes 3:13
>It is God's gift to humankind that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.

James 5:1 -6
>Come now, you rich, weep and howl for the miseries that are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up for treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages of the labourers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have fattened your hearts in a day of slaughter.

Be guwd nn shiiet. Wow, thanks.

Even the Pope agrees

trickle-down economics will make everyone rich OP :^)

condemning religion was the greatest mistake of 20th century socialists.

DUDE! This a great post. I have always talked about the egalitarian nature of Jesus and his radical willingness to mess with the status quo in Judea at the time.

As we know, the Roman's for the most part preserved Crucifixion only for the most heinous crimes (Slave rebellion and treason against the state). Which means you fucking know what he was saying was radical as shit to warrant a public torture and death to warn the citizens.

Unfortunately you are using mostly Old Testament quotes. I think I am gonna reread Matthew and Luke tonight see if I can find some more communist-christian connections.

I have a sad feeling this thread may resort to shitposting, but you have inspired a bit of fun brain games for me this week.

plz dont just be b8

Christianity was shit, instead of worshiping a 2000 year old jew nailed to a piece of wood, you should be worshiping the Romans who nailed him there.

For those who are actually wondering about Christian views on socialism, the official unofficial ideal government form under Catholic teaching is known as distributism, where the means of production are privately owned, but distributed as evenly as possible among the populace so that they can provide for themselves while preventing people from unfairly consolidating power. There's also a large emphasis on volunteer charity, guild-based rather than union-based labor pools, and the nuclear family as the default social unit of society.

They were mostly condemning the religious institutions which is fair since they were mostly filled with corrupt and greedy clergymen

Distributism is Chesterton's idea. The Church never really took stance about it.

That's why I put it as the "official unofficial government". Plenty of Catholic thinkers & activists have supported it, but it's never been officially endorsed by the Church.

I imagine distributism could work on a small-size scale, but just like actual communism i don't see it as a viable solution for an entire society.

Sadly, distributism is nothing more than a romantic pipe-dream.
Here's the official stance.

The biggest reason why Socialism and Communism eventually bog down is because somewhere along the line you must require people to play along, often by force. Communism always worked better on the small scale where people joined or left off their own accord. You needed to be a true believer and weather the bad times together. Socialism (or as close as we've come so far) doesn't have a gun pressed up against peoples' heads but relies on keeping them comfy and happy enough to go along with it. It's not great at weathering the hard times.

What's the difference between a guild system and a union system in this case?

The charitable acts of Jesus were all as a private citizen, so when you think about it, Jesus was a capitalist

Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Nowhere does Jesus advocate for the forced seizure of wealth, though, which is the whole point of communism as a political ideology.

Jesus didn't want to change society to create a new man, he wanted to create a new man to change society. He was the opposite of a socialist.

>Soviets set up laws to ban this

Nice try commie

>reading anything but the new testament

Isaiah 50:6 I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.

Jeremiah 15:17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.
