Probably not. My friend's family comes from Okinawa but she never appeared to have "Ryukyuan Identity" or something like that. She says that they came from Okinawa just like an American says his family comes from Florida. Her father is also a turbo Japnazi.
She says her parents speak Japanese at home and that she learnt some phrases to speak with her grandparents, but obviously what they speak is some kind of Ryukyuan language. She didn't even know Ryukyuans were different from nips until I told her.

Yeah well, at first I just thought it was some dodgy history book that I'd read when I first mentioned it to her but have since seen other references to it. So now I am just assuming that it is ignorance. Not ignorance on her part but ignorance based on her just never, ever having learned about it. She would of gone through her entire school education, again in Hokkaido, and never heard a single reference to it through the Japanese education system nor through community based cultural events etc.

I don't know, user: I had asked my fiancee (who is from Hakodate) about Ainu related stuff after discovering the manga "Golden Kamuy", and she told me they did learn about then. Not extensively or anything, but they did visit a museum about Ainu culture with school. But maybe that was specific of her school or more of a personal initiative from her teacher.
