it depends. if the coin is going to end up with a certain market cap no matter what, then you'd prefer to be the only investor

but it's likely that the more people that invest, the better the project will do, so it will get a better market cap. And if you invest on the first day, you get a better deal than people on the last day, so even if the tokens sell at ico price afterwards you will make a good profit instantly
