Not an expert on this subject but I don't think Wallachia was truly a sovereign state in the same way most modern nations are. It was a vassal state of the Ottomans for most of its history, although Vlad "the Impaler" defied them and ran the country as a de facto independent state (which is why he's well liked by some Romanians today despite his brutality).

You could also argue that modern day Romania is the successor of Wallachia but this is a bit of a stretch imo

Well, Romania sprouted from Wallachia, mainly.

Wallachia is such a silly name.

Transylvania, Wallachia and Moldavia was ruled for a few days by "Michael the Brave", but that's all.
About Transylvania becoming Romanian (simplified):
>Turks BTFO from Hungary by the Holy League in 1683-1699
>Habsburgs annex Transylvania
>wow lots of new free lands on the Alföld (Great Plain)
>Hungarians migrate there from the Felvidék (Highlands, today called Slovakia) and Transylvania. Serbs migrate to what is called Vajdaság (Vojvodina) today..
>wow free lands with better standard of living (for the non-Hungarians)
>wow now we are the majority, give us rights - said the Croats (most rightfully), the Romanians, the Slovaks and the Serbs in the 19th century..

What a load of horseshit

Basically some turks who were rapebabies from turks and gypsy/tatars were hanging around when french and british troops showed up to tell them they were independent now. Being turks and therefore third romans (Constantinople) they proclaimed themselves 4th Rome and reformed it in Bucharest. From there they reversed the ottoman loss of Transylvania in 1699 and are currently aiding their Roman brothers in the demographic conquest of Germany. They link the founding of their nation back to turkish speaker vlad the impaler, the only living man known to be more turkish than turks.

The native name (endonym) of Wallachia is "Ţara Românească" (archaic form Țeara Rumânească) which simply means "the Romanian land".
It's very similar to how Deutschland means "the German lands", Magyarország "the Magyar country", England "land of the Angles", Scotland "land of the Scots".

>however the Hungarian ethnic group became a minority in its own country in the 18th century due to the resettlement policies and continuous immigration from neighboring countries.
couldn't find a better one in English
