There's this utterly baffling segment (for a Westerner anyway) in Water Margin where one of the heroes is almost killed and eaten by two cannibalistic bandits who serve human flesh to passing travelers out of their inn. When they discover who he is they sat sorry for trying to kill and eat him and then join up with him. Nowhere is their murder and consumption of innocent people portrayed as a bad thing.
