Indian buddhist art

Do any of you know where to find images of indian buddhist art? Maybe there is some digital archive or something? I've found a bunch of them googling but usually are of loe quality.

I'm very curious about deities' original indian depiction instead of tibetan ones.

Anyways, I'll be dumping all I've got to keep the thread alive.

Unless stated in the description, AFAIK all the pics are from the Pala dynasty's illustrated manuscripts.

There are several images of unidentified deities, if anybody can identify them I'd also appreciate it.

Green Tara

Chinnamunda

Unknown.

The flower, colors, gestures, etc make me think it's Avalokitesvara

university of chicago has an online archive but it's kinda frustrated to use

Green Tara?

Well, it's a beginning. Thanks for the information

This one is probably a Vajrayana deity. It holds a vajra and other tools and has that characteristical fire on the background

I like the simpler style compared to tibetan thangkas

Unknown (Vajravarahi?)

Chakrasamvara. This is probably a nepalese one

"Smug" Buddha

Unknown.

It's avalable in Wikipedia as an older version of another image (of Mahapratisara), but this one looks like a wrathful deity.

what's going on here?

Manjushri

No idea desu. Probably representd a deity or a bodhisattva

Thanks for the thread, these pieces if Art are incredible.

Another unnamed one

You're welcome, pham. I still got a lot more to post.

Scenes from the life of Buddha

Whats the deal with all the arms?

Each arm holds an object or makes a gesture. Those represent aspects or qualities. They're symbolic.

Ej: one arm does the abhaya mudra meaning fearlesness, other holds a knife meaning the cutting of ties, etc.

Not always is clear, sometimes the actual meaning is hidden or explained in some text.

Unknown. Looks like some Kali-like deity.

This is one of my favorites , it's the closest I've seen among this one to the average wrathful deity. Sadly the stuff on its hands seems to be very blurred except for the kapala. It probably came with its sadhana's text.

Very interesting piece

Art is Indian, but displayed in a museum in China

...

China and India are both ancient places that've had a lot of impact on the world but it seems for China that it's more physical (gunpowder, compass etc etc) while for India it's spiritual /mental (roman numerals, buddhism etc etc)

This one's tibetan.
