Why were the Chinese masses so quick to berate, harass and beat/torture seemingly innocent social groups of people?

Why were the Chinese masses so quick to berate, harass and beat/torture seemingly innocent social groups of people?
People aren't usually that eager to treat people so sadistically unless they have a reason that justifies it.
Was it because they genuinely hated them for living comfortable lives while they lived in poverty, or was it simply because the Chaiman told them to?

>inb4 "What do you expect the Chinese are soulless"

Basic crowd psychology, same thing happened in the French Revolution

Being a peasant has always been a pretty shitty deal. It's not hard to imagine why somebody born into that position would have a lot of resentment hidden underneath their skin. It is the job of a leader to channel that anger in a productive direction.

mao himself was a disgruntled person from his history with academia

war generals and propaganda icons make the worst people to run social policies involving academics etc etc

Fanatism

Fedora tipper killed millions because of his extraordinary autism

no one likes landlords

They were the SJWs of their time desu.

But what if the state becomes in a faceless overpower landlord?

then the natural course of events will take place

like when the state purge the "enemies of the people".

>People aren't usually that eager to treat people so sadistically
literally how old are you

Because those groups weren't fucking innocent.

The Chinese nation had spent a century being looted and humiliated by the Western powers and Japan, and the domestic bourgeoisie was directly culpable in this exploitation for their own personal benefit. The Chinese revolution involved these people, the landlords and collaborators and greedy merchants and aristocrats, being brought down in one fell swoop of justice.

Later on in the 60s, Mao identified more and more groups of people as threats to the nation just as a way to build loyalty to his own person and create conspiracies to which he could implicate his rivals in the communist party.

Schadenfreude (/ˈʃɑːdənfrɔJdə/; German: [ˈʃaːdn̩ˌfʁɔʏ̯də]; lit. 'harm-joy') is the experience of pleasure, joy, or self-satisfaction that comes from learning of or witnessing the troubles, failures, or humiliation of another.

China basically didn't have a state for around 50 years. By the time the communists came and unified the mainland they were desperate enough to do anything

0.15 Yuan have been deposited into your account

>land owners
>roader scum
>innocent

They deserved it. All of it.

Communism.

I'm not even meming. See the collectivization of the farms in Russia, the trials of the engineers, the purge of the intelligentsia. In an actual, real communist revolution, it is inevitable that large swathes of society will be suddenly declared enemies of the people, or simply unnecessary. Unlike nationalist uprisings, being a member of the group identity is no mark of safety. Cambodia would probably be the most extreme case, with Russia from 1917 up to the death of Stalin, being the best example overall.

What do you call a Maoist tankie?

>People aren't usually that eager to treat people so sadistically unless they have a reason that justifies it.
Well you answered it. They're "doing the right thing" and are justified. Struggle sessions are a huge part of the modern left in the west too albeit without the physical violence... usually.

they genuinely thought the Marxist idea of "cultural revolution" would work and they could take people's history and ancestors away thus making everyone truly equal, absolutely fucking insane stuff that quickly resulted in more of a cultural disaster than anything

Same reason the French masses did the same thing in the French revolution, the Russian masses in the Russian revolution, the Haitian masses in the Haitian revolution. Revolution is a crazy time

this From 1949 onwards most land was owned by collective farms or the state and the peasants loved the communists even as Mao was intentionally starving their families to death.

>Why were the Chinese masses so quick to berate, harass and beat/torture seemingly innocent social groups of people?
Because surprise, surprise they're not really that different from non-Chinese when it comes to being sadistic.
