You have 10 seconds to name a major religion that isn't obsessed with policing sex.

Hint: you can't.

Suspicious, isn't it? Almost like religion is a fairy tale used for social control by those in power.

Wow, this is something I never thought about, what are a genious?
You are so cool man, now I will go Atheist and also hate my dad!

wow that's so cool, guess I will become self-hating leftist now and never have children!

> Almost like religion is a fairy tale used for social control by those in power.
people believe that the legends of history are fake, and that their leftist conspiracies are true. What people like you believe to be real is irrelevant to the truth.

Animism

It's like the vital, life-giving, transcendent force that lives within sexuality isn't an obviously central factor to spirituality and religion.

If you don't realize this you have been brainwashed by a malevolent force.

Maybe society needs to be controlled, did you ever think of that you dunce?

> hurr they won´t let me fuck my sister and my mom

It it not about social control by those in power. Christianity did not began by those in power. Jesus, Saint Peter and Saint Paul were all executed by authorities and the early beginnings of Christianity had plenty of people who were persecuted by their beliefs.

Having a kind of sexual ethics (that is how you deal with sex) is important for yourself (and consequently for a healthy society), since "if it feels good, do it" is a terrible idea. Abandoning self restraint for hedonism will lead to the problems created in the late 60's in the West. People become addicted to pleasure and controlled by it. For example, if you read a women's magazine or their make equivalents, you will see a complete obsession with pleasure. And then, this leads to a bad lifestyle and unhappier lives.

If you take a look at old Greek/Roman philosophy, you will see that sexual ethics was not about controlling others. It was about controlling yourself so that you would be able to be happier. This is pretty clear on Stoicism, which is a philosophy concerned mostly with improving yourself, with working to improve society being a byproduct of you being a virtuous person.

They police sex for the same reason they police everything, because it's fucking common sense for the societies they come from. Can you think of a single good reason why you shouldn't be loyal to your SO, especially in a society where a woman getting pregnant with the wrong man can mean the fucking end? People assume that religions are anti-women, but it's women that benefit from all the monogamy. Your mate could pump and dump you and then you'd be left with a belly and an offspring you can't take care of.
Never mind other things that people thought were backwards that turn out now to be fucking amazing for you, like fasting. Sure, not everything is still valid today, but it was incredibly useful for educating and keeping small-minded in line. You seriously think Europeans would've been better off with fucking paganism?

t. a rabid atheist

If you guys hate sex so much, then move to Saudi Arabia.

>this leads to a bad lifestyle and unhappier lives.
Prove it.

Greek polytheism

Not at all. Why would sex not be subject to norms and morals? Are you just butthurt you can't get laid?

Abrahamitic religions are basically the only ones that are extrmely prude. Europe before christianity wasn't, and basically all non-abrahamatic cultures (far east asian, tribal cultures, american, etc.) are also much more relaxed when it comes to sex. Same goes for gays, only in the fucked up abrahamitic religions is having sex with another man something that you are going to get killed for. Most other cultures were pretty tolerant towards gay people. Same also goes for masturbation, which, for some reason, is a sin.

So lets not say policing Sex like abrahamitic religions do is "normal" or "good for society". The relation of the abrahamitic religions towards sex is completely fucked up and is probably due to one of the founding figures being some kind of obsessively jealous character.

How does the world work and how should it work?

The human brain normalizes pleasures and pain, although with more priority given to pain. We did not evolve to be unrelenting and happy all the time every day all day. Trying to chase a repeat of a pleasure is futile unless you actually let hunger run its course.

Somehow this concept evades the vast majority of people. Higher hedonics is worried partially with the range between highs and lows. It's not the consecutive number of highs but the distance between peaks and valleys which inform our notions of happiness and emotional darkness. Chasing after peaks is courting frustration, anger, and futility.

>Sex isn't that important!

Family, Relationships, Physical Health, Psychology, etc are all impacted by Sex. "Why would God care about sexual acts so much?! LOL" - Did you ever stop to think that perhaps Sex is so important and integral to human life?

You are completely ignorant and you are trying to teach others.
I don't know any Eastern religion other than Buddhism. But Buddhism does have sexual norms. Monks are supposed to be celibate and laypeople also have their sexual rules. Buddhism believes carnal desire leads to suffering, after all.

And the Greeks and Roman pagans did have sexual ethics. The Roman Stoics were more restrictive than the Christians and Epicurus was celibate. And in Greek philosophy in general there is a lot of concern about not being a slave to pleasure.

>implying it's part of the OP's life at all

"'Worthless man, haven't I taught the Dhamma in many ways for the fading of passion, the sobering of intoxication, the subduing of thirst, the destruction of attachment, the severing of the round, the ending of craving, dispassion, cessation, unbinding? Haven't I in many ways advocated abandoning sensual pleasures, comprehending sensual perceptions, subduing sensual thirst, destroying sensual thoughts, calming sensual fevers? Worthless man, it would be better that your penis be stuck into the mouth of a poisonous snake than into a woman's vagina. It would be better that your penis be stuck into the mouth of a black viper than into a woman's vagina. It would be better that your penis be stuck into a pit of burning embers, blazing and glowing, than into a woman's vagina. Why is that? For that reason you would undergo death or death-like suffering, but you would not on that account, at the break-up of the body, after death, fall into deprivation, the bad destination, the abyss, hell..."

A large part of Classical Philosophy is about how to achieve eudaimonia which would be happiness/flourishing.

And one of the conclusions they reached was that being a pleasure seeker is at odds with this. Being a pleasure seeker and over indulging in the pleasures of the flesh increases your desire for pleasure, which leads to unhappiness (since you can never satisfy your desires) and bad life decisions.

Most important, it sends you to the wrong road. Happiness is achieved not by having pleasure. Pleasure lasts only a moment. But about having the right mindset, the right habits. Someone who doesn't few the need to have pleasure and lives a simple life will be happier than the one who feels the need for it.

The Amish live simple lives without a lot of luxury and are happy. So, you can be happy without a life of pleasure. And rockstars may lead a life of pleasure and be unhappy, suicidal. So pleasure can't prevent unhappiness.

hahahaha kek

OP, are you even trying? Zoroastrianism literally wants you to bang like rabbits and produce many children. Maybe not a major religion today, but it definitely had its time in the sunlight (or should I say fire light?)

>Suspicious, isn't it? Almost like religion is a fairy tale used for social control by those in power.
No, you've got it wrong, user. Every OTHER religion is that, but mine is true.

>The Amish live simple lives without a lot of luxury and are happy.

>far east asian
Isn't 60% of Japan virgins? And gay marriage just became legal in Taiwan. Its still illegal in China for
sure.

This why I tell people who are anti-religion that they follow one. They want the government to
provide everything. The state will step in and support a single mother. These same people who claim
to want to vote for the benefit of society for the future... can't understand that making marriage
non-existent and taxing all productive people to death will result in no future at all.

Why is Mia Khalifa so hot in pictures, yet her porn is so mediocre?

Doubt? That people who are energized by situations and relationships are somehow happier than people energized by the latest dopamine fly?

Happiness is relative and fleeting. Even more so when you base it on phenomena that you have no true control of and no true understanding of.

Strong societies are based on strong families?

You don't say.

Hey, there's like 6000 years of history for you, right there. Strong societies are made up of strong families.

>Abrahamitic religions are basically the only ones that are extrmely prude. Europe before christianity wasn't
Lol.
It's documented germanics were into the whole "stay a virgin until marriage in your early 20's, and fucking around outside of the marital bed(that includes both premarital, and adultery) means you are a whore, regardless of gender".

Romans said boys must be warned about the dangers of sexual intercourse or of gaining any knowledge of it in any respect until he is married. It will teach him self-control and also keep his reputation clean. Abstinence from sex will also help him grow strong physically, just as it will make his soul virtuous.
1. The passion of newlyweds soon burns out. Marriage starts with lust but will only last if a more sustainable fuel can be found.
2. When the husband got married, yes, he wanted his wife to have children. No, he did not want her to stop looking after him.
3. A modest wife should be seen in public mostly with her husband, but when he is away on business she should stay at home.
4. A wife should have no emotion of her own but should reflect the mood of her husband. She should laugh at his jokes when he is happy and be sad when he is low.
5. A wife should have no friends of her own but should cultivate those of her husband.
6. A happy marriage is one where the words ‘mine’ and ‘yours’ are seldom heard. All things, whether good or bad, should be shared, and the bond will be strengthened all the more by it.
7. A woman should never try to rule her husband. It is the man’s lot to govern his wife, not as a master does his slave, but as the soul does the body by sympathy and goodwill.
8. A sensible wife will stay quiet during her husband’s tantrums.
9. If there is one golden rule, it is that wives should be submissive.

Matthew 21:28-31King James Version (KJV)

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.

29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went.

30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

What kind of news are you reading? 60% of Japan is not virgin. No country in the world has 60% virgin rate. Not even vatican.

>Mia Khalifa
Yuck

>According to the Japan Times, a new survey of Japanese people ages 18 to 34 found that 70 percent of unmarried men and 60 percent of unmarried women are not in a relationship. It gets worse: Around 42 percent of men and 44.2 percent of women admitted that they were virgins.

The Islamic point of view about the worldly good things is not negative, rather it says that we should appreciate them as the blessings of God. And Islam is, therefore, totally opposed to monasticism and celibacy. 'Uthman bin Maz'un was a close companion of the Prophet. One day his wife came to the Prophet and complained, "O the Messenger of God! 'Uthman fasts during the day and stands for prayers during the night."

In other words, she meant to say that her husband was abstaining from sexual relations during the night as well as the day. The Prophet was so much angered with this that he did not even wait to put on his slippers.

He came out with the slippers in his hands and went to 'Uthman's house. The Prophet found him praying. When 'Uthman finished his prayers and turned towards the Prophet, the latter said, "O 'Uthman! Allah did not send me for monasticism, rather He sent me with a simple and straight [shari'ah].

I fast, pray and also have intimate relations with my wife. So whosoever likes my tradition, then he should follow it; and marriage is one of my traditions.12 Since 'Uthman was already married, the word "marriage" in this hadith can only be applied to sexual relations.

What's wrong with social control ? Do you want anarchy, lawlessness, the end of civilization as we know it ? Religion is an extremely useful tool to instill morals and social cohesion, while providing comfort and welfare to the common people.

>The Prophet was so much angered with this that he did not even wait to put on his slippers.

I-is this some huge symbolic thing I'm not getting? Or did the guy writing these Hadith thought it would be a neat little anecdote?

Does Wicca count as major? It's got a few hundred thousand adherents.

The ancient Celts tolerated homosexuality and they didn't care if someone was a top or bottom. The ancient Chinese were the same, I think.

It is not a serious religion.

Fair enough. Modern pagan revivals are pretty much memes anyway.

>Wahhhhhhh if it just wasn't for those evil racist homophobe Christians I would be able to engage in pederasty, fucking Yahweh worshipers REEEE

Guess what? Other religious traditions are even more conservative than modern Christianity. Sodomy is criminalized in most Buddhist countries, like Bhutan and Sri Lanka, and even countries that have legalized it have only done so recently under pressure from western oligarchs spreading LGBT rights as modern imperialism.

Hinduism is not in favor of sodomy either and India has laws against it that are not explicitly rooted in Islam. Try not to project your capitalist McBurger worldview unto the rest of the world you dumb faggot, also neck your self retard.

1 Corinthians 7:8-9New Living Translation (NLT)

8 So I say to those who aren’t married and to widows—it’s better to stay unmarried, just as I am. 9 But if they can’t control themselves, they should go ahead and marry. It’s better to marry than to burn with lust.

Job 31:11-12New Living Translation (NLT)

11 For lust is a shameful sin,
a crime that should be punished.
12 It is a fire that burns all the way to hell.
It would wipe out everything I own.

Okay, now we know what the retard who wrote that passage thinks, now explain why YOU think it's bad?

In the early 1960s, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) acquired property in a rural area outside Poolesville, Maryland. The facility that was built on this property housed several research projects, including those headed by Calhoun. It was here that his most famous experiment, the mouse universe, was created.[1] In July 1968 four pairs of mice were introduced into the habitat. The habitat was a 9-foot (2.7 m) square metal pen with 4.5-foot-high (1.4 m) sides. Each side had four groups of four vertical, wire mesh "tunnels." The "tunnels" gave access to nesting boxes, food hoppers, and water dispensers. There was no shortage of food or water or nesting material. There were no predators. The only adversity was the limit on space.

John Calhoun meeting Pope Paul VI on 27 September 1973

Initially, the population grew rapidly, doubling every 55 days. The population reached 620 by day 315, after which the population growth dropped markedly, doubling only every 145 days. The last surviving birth was on day 600, bringing the total population to a mere 2200 mice, even though the experiment setup allowed for as many as 3840 mice in terms of nesting space. This period between day 315 and day 600 saw a breakdown in social structure and in normal social behavior. Among the aberrations in behavior were the following: expulsion of young before weaning was complete, wounding of young, increase in homosexual behavior, inability of dominant males to maintain the defense of their territory and females, aggressive behavior of females, passivity of non-dominant males with increased attacks on each other which were not defended against.[2]

After day 600, the social breakdown continued and the population declined toward extinction. During this period females ceased to reproduce. Their male counterparts withdrew completely, never engaging in courtship or fighting. They ate, drank, slept, and groomed themselves – all solitary pursuits. Sleek, healthy coats and an absence of scars characterized these males. They were dubbed "the beautiful ones." Breeding never resumed and behavior patterns were permanently changed.

The conclusions drawn from this experiment were that when all available space is taken and all social roles filled, competition and the stresses experienced by the individuals will result in a total breakdown in complex social behaviors, ultimately resulting in the demise of the population.

Calhoun saw the fate of the population of mice as a metaphor for the potential fate of man. He characterized the social breakdown as a "second death," with reference to the "second death" mentioned in the Biblical book of Revelation 2:11.[1] His study has been cited by writers such as Bill Perkins as a warning of the dangers of the living in an "increasingly crowded and impersonal world."[3]

No, religion is rationalized insanity by a human tribe or nation. No religion has ever been invented solely for social control either. All religions are the result if cultural beliefs atheist faggot.

Let's see how the German Pagans acted in regards to sexual ethics in the era of the Romans

>Thus with their virtue protected they live uncorrupted by the allurements of public shows or the stimulant of feastings. Clandestine correspondence is equally unknown to men and women. Very rare for so numerous a population is adultery, the punishment for which is prompt, and in the husband's power. Having cut off the hair of the adulteress and stripped her naked, he expels her from the house in the presence of her kinsfolk, and then flogs her through the whole village. The loss of chastity meets with no indulgence; neither beauty, youth, nor wealth will procure the culprit a husband. No one in Germany laughs at vice, nor do they call it the fashion to corrupt and to be corrupted. Still better is the condition of those states in which only maidens are given in marriage, and where the hopes and expectations of a bride are then finally terminated. They receive one husband, as having one body and one life, that they may have no thoughts beyond, no further-reaching desires, that they may love not so much the husband as the married state. To limit the number of their children or to destroy any of their subsequent offspring is accounted infamous, and good habits are here more effectual than good laws elsewhere.

The Source is Tacitus' Germania.

You are just ignorant and think that because you repeat the same thing that your equally ignorant highschool teacher you are wise and knowledgeable.

lol, puritans discouraged sex between married people, it should only be done if they want to produce offspring. but yeah, thats totally the same like punishing a cheating bitch.

>the abrahamic religions emerged from germany and rome

okay, mixed up puritans and catholics, but point still stands:

ligonier.org/blog/sex-in-marriage/

>...the medieval Roman Catholic attitudes that marriage was inferior to celibacy, that all sexual contact between marital partners was a necessary evil to propagate the human race, and that a procreative act that involved passion was inherently sinful.

I think people just project their modern worldviews and their assorted fetishes onto their unprovably distant ancestors.
See 19th century folks saying pre-civ savages started off as communists/monotheist/atheists.

Afterwards we saw tribesmen are just tribesmen, and are both boring and predictable as fuck in some areas, but super varied in economics and religion.

Nowadays, we do the same shit, but we project our stuff onto our even more distant ancestors.
See crappy books like "Sex at Dawn" selling like cupcakes, because they say grandma cavewoman did gangbangs and partner swapping all the time, and everyone was super cool with it, and all our adaptations are evidence of our wild, true past, which we should all aspire to, like moaning showing getting stuffed with cock in all the woman's holes being how humans reproduce, and penises being like that because tribesmen loved sloppy seconds, and cucking each other, based on some dubious theories and cherry-picking ape behaviour when it's convenient.

Because everyone wants to project their dreams of sexual communism, where everyone is getting laid all the time, and you are secretly breeding all the womanfolk, while the daddy and responsabilities remain unknown, is something people jerk off to.

The text is mentioning that the Germanic Pagans had strong sexual ethics. You claimed that only the "Abrahamic Religions" had them.

That reminds me of Margaret Mead's story.

Abrahamitic religions still are by far the most prude cultures, there's no denying that. Catholic priests literally are not allowed to have Sex at all.

>pic related is how real civilizations treat sexuality.
A pretty varied treatise, that is also filled with a ton of taboos and conservative sexual norms that seem silly to us?

>I just quickly googled some shit without knowing what it actually is but it kind of sounds like it fits my view so here it is

Do you even understand what the text says?

>Catholic priests literally are not allowed to have Sex at all.
Actually they can, canonically speaking.
It's just a discipline followed by the clergy of the latin rite, that could be changed tomorrow, if need be.

I'm sorry.
I couldnt quickly find that lovely part from the Kamasutra where you have to drink a really gross concoction as punishment for doing some really light kinky stuff.

Because that book is big as fuck, and a lot of writing and advice, and not just "pretty pictures of acrobatic indians screwing".

Doesn't change the fact that people that want to reach enlightenment, especially buddhist monks, are obliged to be celibate and not think dirty thoughts.
But i guess that's hard for Mr. "ancients loved homosex, guys, but those evil white chris-males ruined everything with their prude, patriarcha ways", "i heard of tantric yoga once. Seems cool".

All that's missing is telling me about some super sex-loving islanders from bumfuck nowhere that you read about once.

This. Fuck off degenerates and read some Polybius or someshit.
