>the Russian life expectancy went DOWN between 1964 and 1984
What's up with that?

Oil prices crashed and Russian economy crashed with them.

Yeah as it turns out the life expectancy tends to drop when the entire societal and economic system collapses under its own failures and inadequacies

>implying Yeltsin's shock therapy wasn't more damaging than anything Gorbachev did

Why are you ignoring Yeltsin and Gorbachev couldn't really do anything to prevent the collapse. You can't diversify the economy in a few years.

Kek

>1999-2005 was collapse

Half of this is collapse, half is Russian men.

Why was it so hard for the Red Man to provide staples of life such as non-cardboard meat outside of the Moscow area? It seems like all the officals did was tell lie after lie about the actual production of these items. I know it is the Russian way to be obsessed with telling and detecting lies, but what the fuck? I would rather live in Qin dynasty China than the USSR.

>"HOLY SHIT ARE YOU SEEING ALL OF THIS?"
>"WAIT, WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY'RE ALL LIKE THIS?!"

Marxist theory is completely detached from reality; any discrepancies between observation and Marxist theory are just proof that Marxist theory is correct. Couple this complete stupidity with the inefficiencies of a command economy and you end up with a country being run by people who genuinely believe that if something doesn't work it's just proof that it does in fact work. Oh, and they also believe you have to murder anyone who disagrees with this.

this
Capitalism dindu nuffin.

Why do "conservatives" attack communists all the time? There's literally like no communists left. Trying to relive the glory days?

Because there were over 25 years ago, and this is a historical board.

Believe it or not, communists still exist- to my disgust of course

In your country, perhaps. Here in Latin America they are still scamming around.

>What's up with that?
Not their life expectancy

Nice try Capriles

...

Combination of decreasing oil revenues, official tolerance of corruption, and an elderly, conservative party elite resistant to innovation.

Stop reading Cold War American propaganda.

They have to associate their political enemies with a boogieman, or else their voting base will start wondering about their neo-liberalism policies and Reagan and maybe those aren't the best things around after all. It's a weird sort of cultural Marxism the right-wing engage in.

China is ruled by the Communist Party. 1.5 billion people

>most powerful man of the most powerful communist country impressed by the quality of live any every man in a developed capitalist country could afford

>There's literally like no communists left.

Postmodern neo-Marxists are swarming university campuses.

It's almost worth trading the entire future of the human race, just to get all those different choices of tv dinners!

>this kills more than just the communist

>"For a long time, on the plane to Miami, he sat motionless, his head in his hands. ‘What have [we] done to our poor people?’ he said after a long silence.” He added, “On his return to Moscow, Yeltsin would confess the pain he had felt after the Houston excursion: the ‘pain for all of us, for our country so rich, so talented and so exhausted by incessant experiments.’ ”

>“I think we have committed a crime against our people by making their standard of living so incomparably lower than that of the Americans.” An aide, Lev Sukhanov was reported to have said that it was at that moment that “the last vestige of Bolshevism collapsed” inside his boss.

Should I take your word on communism, or should I take the word of a former chairman of the soviet?

>the last vestige of Bolshevism collapsed
After all the stupid shit Stalin got up to, only now then it collapsed? Leftists were already branding the Soviet Union as a failure long before that

well when you consider that they have to live in Russia that's actually a metric of success

>proceeds to destroy every last bit of stability and order in his country

>any discrepancies between observation and Marxist theory are just proof that Marxist theory is correct
Holy shit what please elaborate

>destroys the old way in an attempt to fix his country
>result is marked improvement in growth in all standard of living indexes over the next 30 years
I don't see the problem

The Soviets Unions fault lied in not allowing democracy. It was called the 'soviet' union for a reason.

I don't care for calling something 'communism' failing because 'communist' isn't a government structure. Leninism, however, is. The vanguard party with no opposition within the country is what failed.

Wouldn't impact life expectancy.

The true reason is a surge of alcoholism from the early sixties until Gorbachev tackled the problem early in his tenure. He was quite successful at it, in fact, one of the few successes of his regime. Shame it went to shit when the USSR collapsed.

They ignore the fact that capitalist russia is growing faster in life expectancy in this current era then the USSR ever did. Usually by deluding themselves into thinking Putin will revive the communist party one day.

>wouldn't affect life expectancy
>living standards have nothing to do with the economy
Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

Russia's going through a fucking oil sanctions crisis right now and it's not impacting life expectancy. You're grasping at straws and replying to legitimate data with insults.

>this kills the communist

Communism is still popular in Russia, it just now has to be one party among many.

It makes me think, if the communist party wins the majority of elections in a country, or the presidency, does that make the county a 'communist country' (by common usage of the term) or does it have to be a single party state for that term to be applied?

Where do you live senpai

have you ever talked to young people on politics?

..

A few million people have to die arbitrarily.

This is why Russians will never give up Putin. He managed to return the country to Soviet prowess and stability without losing access to the world market.

No country has ever actually implemented communism in the Marxist sense (worker owned industry and the abolition of the marker and commodity production), so we can reasonably say that every country with a communist government is a communist country.

Nepal and Cuba are both run by communist parties. The difference is that Cuba followed the Soviet model and nationalized their economy while Nepal didn't. While I'm sure Cubans politicians their country is moving slowly on the road to communism, because neither Cuba or Nepal actually practice communism what matters most is that their governments are run by communists.

Communism has been rising kind of steadily in the West thanks to the failures of Neoliberalism.

Many people who supported Sanders and Corbyn, and even some who worked for their campaigns, are Marxists. Look at the Twitter of any prominent Democrat and their mentions will be full of communists insulting them for being capitalist.

For instance the Democratic Socialist Party of America has grown from 5,000 to 30,000 people in the past two years, and other Soviet style parties and anarchist organizations are growing as well.

The historical record is vindication that that other user is actually being truthful. Also IIRC Lukacs has some line about how Marxism would still be true and necessary even if it could empirically be shown to be false. Whoever wrote that line, what I take the line to mean is that for the author, Marxism has fully become a religious tenet, a moral project that must always be doubled-down on no matter how many times it fails in practice. Now cue some idiot to ask me to go back to /pol/, or similar.

No, that's retarded. Marxism is not a religion, it's a framework for socioeconomic analysis just the same as our dominant liberalism. It's not a system of government or even a revolutionary program, but just a framework for analyzing society on the basis of class. Marx gave no instructions on how the world should operate, but instead made broad predictions on the way future history would play out -- capitalism would expand, wealth would accumulate in fewer and fewer hands, independent producers would become wage laborers, and the wage laborers would ultimately become so powerful and so numerous that they could seize control of the economy.

Probably the biggest flaw in Marxism, which could maybe be construed as a strength, is that Marx's conclusions were so open-ended and non-perceptive that they can really never be falsified. As long as capitalism continues to exist, Marxism will be an adequate tool for analyzing its development. Marxism can only be proven wrong if our economy transforms into something that does not have private property and commodity production yet somehow does not resemble the communism described by Marx.

>Soviet prowess

>laughs in American

Russia is definitely a shadow of its former self, but compare 2017 to 1997.

Twenty years ago Russia was a pseudo ancap hellscape dominated by gangsters and Western business owners with no functioning services public or private and quality-of-life indicators more similar to Africa than to the West.

fucking lol
neck yourself

Why there was no violent revolution in 92?

91*

Remember when Yeltsin ordered the Army to bomb the Russian White Hour full of barricaded parliamentarians? Good times

>Marxism is not a religion it's a framework for socioeconomic analysis
Nah, it just requires a prior admission of certain "facts", without any sort of scientific merit, in order to even function as such. This is followed up by exclaiming that Marx can't be proven wrong (and God can't be proven to not exist). In practice those who oppose it likewise end up being branded as enemies (counter-revolutionaries, reactionaries or...heretics) by default and need to ultimately be...purged

All the retards supporting Yeltsin because of "commie-slaying savior" memes, keep in mind it was Yeltsin who brought Putin to power.

Oh yeah user please do tell me how the chinese """""communist""""" party is communist.

>No country has ever actually implemented communism in the Marxist sense (worker owned industry and the abolition of the marker and commodity production), so we can reasonably say that every country with a communist government is a communist country.
I don't understand the logic you used there. To be a communist country requitements must be met, if they aren't then you can't call yourself one.

Yeltsin wasn't just surprised at the food in the supermarkets. He was also surprised as to the make up of the clientele. Poor, Blacks, Hispanics etc. Yeltsin was surprised as to the lack of racial and ethnic tensions within the US unlike inside the USSR.

ironic from a 2017 perspective

Idk it seems Marxism has become a secular religion for academics with it's own dogma and beliefs. An Opiate for the intellectual

b-but communism erases all ethnic tension and Amerikkka is the worst oppressor in the world

>lack of racial tensions
>America in 1989
Are you actually retarded? That's just three years before LA riots.

based Putin

Russian alcohol went the way of russian bread: if availability dropped or if prices went up folks were likely to riot, so while everything else was always in desperately short supply you could get increasingly plastered each year as the government scrambled to please your alcohol intake.

there are talks in various russian segments that the russian government falsifies general statistics and that russia's current population has dropped to approximately 80-90 million

it sounds like a conspiracy theory but given recent events it might actually be true

That would be an accurate description of Marxism in a nutshell but it also draws support from losers within the capitalist system, primarily failed people from middle class backgrounds.

If Nepal is not a communist country than neither is Cuba

Both have some degree of capitalism, only difference ended is that Cuba nationalized their economy

Nepal is even worse because they contracted maoitism.

>communism was horrible
>the collapse was even worse
>Putin makes it better than ever

I seriously think Putin, at least for the Russian people, is a good leader. I say this as an american who fucking hates the "le based putin" memers on the alt-right as well

Massive alcoholism. Srsly. Something the Soviets never, ever had shortages of was Vodka so everyone was plastered, all the time.

Too bad no one could afford anything in that store.

>even leftypol starting to realizes how retarded Mao was

Myth that the USSR collapsed due to economic failure. The failure was entirely political and largely due to internal factional politics of the USSR. The USSR actually at the time was quite economically... okay and not even the CIA had predicted the USSR would collapse in at all in the next decade. It was a massive shock to everyone and it was caused by massive miscalculated policy blunders under Gorbachev (personally I don't know exactly what these were beyond Glastnost and Perestroika but I had a close friend who studied this era for her thesis and she calls Gorbachev a massive fucking incompetent dumbfuck retard) and then factional infighting between Gorby and the Hardliners allowing CIA drunkboy to outmanoeuvre them all with military support and destroy the system while shooting hundreds of civilians in the streets.

If you look at economic charts maybe, but really life was faaaar better in the USSR. Russia today has massive drug problems, massive unemployment problems, huge fucking crime problems.
At least in the USSR your life was pretty secure and you were very safe.

>At least in the USSR your life was pretty secure and you were very safe
>Communism.
Nice try. But many Russians prefer to live under Yeltsin era than communist era

>At least in the USSR your life was pretty secure and you were very safe.

unless you get arrested for wrongthink

Is that why the Commies won in elections in 1996 and the US had to rig the election for Yeltsin?

telesurtv.net/english/news/Poll-Most-Russians-Prefer-Return-of-Soviet-Union-and-Socialism-20160420-0051.html

Most Russians would prefer to have the Soviet system back. Putin allowed them a greater access to resources which is really awesome, but at the cost of new economic worries and rising social problems like drug addiction, Chechen terrorism, and prostitution

Not an argument.

Fake news

Why assume they're talking about economic policy? Many Brits regret losing the Empire, does that mean they want the Corn Laws back? The Russian people want to be a super power again, and Putin promises that.

Russia's economy is also a lot less retarded this time around, even if it's still not diversified enough by really any standards
