Hard to say from a layman's perspective, since so much of the internal structure of the regime is either unknown or classified. But it seems likely that the present state of de-facto military rule can continue on for the medium term at least (next 10 or so years).

If it does collapse, it is likely to be some sort of falling out from within the NK brass. There don't seem to be any viable alternate source of political power and legitimacy around which you can form a group that can upstage the military over the poor economic situation.

However, external pressure bringing down NK is unlikely to happen, even if it theoretically could work. Nobody wants to deal with the aftermath of a NK collapse and what happens between China and SK afterwards.

A cool thing about central planning is that you don't need to rely on the lowest bidder for public works projects.
