I have a theory here, could it be that Disney created the furry phenomena? is it Disneys fault for creating the furries we have today? I see no other signs of furries before the advent of Disney movies take on antrophomorphic animals.
Shamans and all that do not count as they come in touch with nature for religious purposes, not sexual fetish.
Don't know but Lady Marian was my first childhood crush
Nicholas Brown
Disney and Sonic, most likely.
Michael Lewis
Disney, sonic, star fox, etc popularized it but there were underground furry magazines from the 60's onwards. I can't wait for it to become the subject of serious scholarly study
Logan Morales
It was Robin Hood for me. But yeah, this movie created a fuck-ton of furries, no doubt about it.
Brandon Hughes
Anthro foxes are hot as fuck They're all so cool and sly and shit
Connor Roberts
It was accidental. Children have far fewer hormones, however they have human brains with the same instincts "hard wired" from birth ranging from feelings of disgust at the smell of putrecine to sexual attraction. Adults also tend to incorporate things they find sexually attractive into their interests and art. Both are controversial and rarely discussed yet both are facts.
It should come as no surprise that Disney created cartoon characters with features we find "pretty" and children who picked up on this from an early age would see it develop into a fetish when they are older and the hormones start flowing.
Adam Bell
so the main shit started in the 60?
Oliver Adams
>I see no other signs of furries before the advent of Disney movies pretty much every pagan religion has anthropomorphism and shapeshifting
Brayden Brooks
I said that is religious and does not count, as the modern furry is purely based on sexual lust, only corporeal needs.
Adrian Price
How is what Disney is doing different from the hundreds of animal fables that precede them?
Chase Torres
making the foxes really, really sexy I wouldn't say it's just a sexual thing, a lot seem to be autistic and like to imagine themselves as animals in non sexual situations as well
Evan Richardson
>ased on sexual lust, It's a children's cartoon
Isaiah Jackson
paganism is also based on lust and id bet a modern furry would argue there is a spiritual component to their fetish and "fetish" itself is a word that originally referred to cultic items used in pagan rituals anyway
Jackson Rogers
What about otherkin?
Autists really like the no human faces part
Isaac Perez
when you have an animistic religion that form your daily life and how you act. The animal being a holy revered object as can be seen during paleolithic hunts for example where you have shamans that go out in the wild comes in touch with a protective spirit animal and take other animal forms as a form of holy communion between nature and man to appease angry ghost of the afterlife and such, this sort of religion dies out.
The furries we see today are not a recreation of those things, they (atleast i suspect) got their inspiration from Disney as this is the one of the first producers that dealt with antropohmorphic animals that walked and talked like humans and were "sexy" if one puts it like that as some furries would. There is nothing religious about the modern furry, its purely corporeal.
Dominic Martin
which is probably why most furry porn is just human bodies + non human faces
Jace Gomez
paganism is very wide in this context, if an animal were called upon it was either for battle to gain the power of this animal spirit for strength or give grace to the spirit for thanks to the hunt as the spirit would not return to haunt them.
A modern furry may want to become an animal "a fursona" as they say, but this is just for escapism and sexual desires.
Benjamin Cook
>gain the power of this animal spirit for strength this is literally escapism
Jeremiah Smith
Furries exist on a different plane of reality
Jackson Carter
strength for battle is a whole other level of escapism than the modern furry. There is actual belief that the animal spirit dwells in you or guards over you in this time its invoked as you can only call upon your guardian spirit which you obtained through travel in the "chaotic world" aka nature itself. Which all shamans had to undergo.
There is no such belief in a furry.
Jace Hughes
Post picture of ancient furry ghost helping Gavrilo shoot Mario.
Jason Robinson
>actual belief that the animal spirit dwells in you or guards over you sounds a lot like a fursona to me user
Jonathan Wood
its religious, a whole other dimension of belief.
Kevin Wright
you underestimate furry autism there are no lack of furries who believe they have a special spiritual relationship with their fursonas, even excluding otherkin its a wild world
Joseph Wilson
that spirit is earned, you had to go out in nature and trascend a dangerous world to achieve it. Sometimes you got one, sometimes you didn´t, one could not choose to be a fox for example, it all depended on what the nature gods saw in you.
Caleb Foster
perhaps although i would say they are on two whole different dimension of being and thinking about.
Parker Russell
And why is it specifically forbidden on these boards? You can find the most absurd content here, but no furry...
Chase Powell
what do you mean user.
Isaac Moore
You are not allowed to post cp, gore AND furry. Weird.
Joshua Johnson
pretending to be an animal is pretending to be animal
so really believe in "nature gods" then? ok... but i think its more likely that a tribesmen who was a big guy would come out of the woods pretending to be a bear because bears are the big guys of the woods and a skinny tribesman would pretend to be a fox etc... its just projecting yourself onto an animal just like how autistic people get obsessed with cartoon characters who they see themselves in
Jaxon Morris
I guess this works because it incorporates early religious belief with the modern day and how different it is and in no way comparable.
Daniel Robinson
They get their autism and drama everywhere, even if there's nothing particularly offensive about the content.
Hunter Murphy
Because we recognized over a decade ago that furfags are that absolute bottom scum, an infinite number of leagues beneath even us.
Angel Taylor
What the hell.
Jackson Stewart
nature religions didnt work like that, you couldnt just decide what you wanted to be. There is a reasons shamans were highly revered as they were the ones who blessed hunters before they went out on a hunt and also appeased the spirits after the hunt and placed the skeleton back into nature. Only a shaman had the "right" to be an animal, only he had sufficient enough experience to interact with the spirit world the animals inhabited as this was a very dangerous world no normal person could thread. Shamans being both religious leaders, medicine men and councilors, they knew what the spirits wanted and what the humans wanted, proper communication and respect is a must in the world they live in.
Leo Sanders
...
William Stewart
>this
Jonathan Hill
>being the same as this.
Colton Morris
Furry drama is on the decline desu
Adrian Sullivan
Maybe. What makes you think that?
Xavier Martinez
I spend a lot of time in furry circles and it seems they're getting more mature
Jayden Rivera
Makes sense, I'm sure the average age of a lot of online groups (including Veeky Forums users) is going up.
Leo Watson
Cherry picking, there's a lot of anthro animals in pagan religions
Benjamin Lopez
have you read anything i wrote?
Noah Wood
Yes All you show is your lack of understanding of furries
Jack Jones
may i ask something, are you a furry?
Adrian Sanchez
Yes
Angel Butler
>implying Zeus fucking every human female in sight in the form of a random beast is not the absolute state of furry last
Connor Ward
alright then, would you mind explaining some of the beliefs that makes it comparable to ancient animistic religions? Is it only the shaman taking on the role of the guardian spirit that is comparable, is there more? you are into this environment after all
Gavin Hill
>"We're totally mature now guys please accept us people who literally identify as cartoon animals wearing diapers" Kill them all
Henry Sanders
...
Jeremiah Perez
>implying a god is comparable to a standard human. Greek mythology is also not Animistic, but polytheistic where they worship gods that appear as human for the most part.
Ian Davis
I'm not saying they're the same, but for a lot of people it goes beyond just a sexual fetus just into a syncretic culture, with some going as far as believing they are spiritually connected to their fursonas
Ayden Morales
what do you base that on? its not like there was any sort of standardized theology or written records of their beliefs. the shamans were just proto-frogposters who were skilled at manipulating primitive people
Brayden Foster
mhm, but that is some as you say yourself. when you have a whole religion based around nature gods and spirit belief as seen in these animistic religions which form the basis of day to day life i would say its quite a different element.
Adam Jones
Taken to a much further extent, but I'd be surprised if they don't come from essentially the same place psychologically
Adam Myers
I was merely pointing out that such a thought wasn't absent from those myths. Maybe it was not the central part of the worship, but the underlying lust can't be denied, it's essentially a furry fantasy
Joshua Moore
>inserting a 21st century mindset into theology and history.
If you want to start to get into it i would recommend the anthropology of religion by Bowie
Camden Wood
that is an interesting thought, just manifesting itself in a very different form.
Liam Davis
human beings are still fundamentally the same as we were thousands of years ago which is why ancient religions continue to speak to us to this day. it really isnt *that* hard to understand primitive societies if you can deprogram yourself from all the pc garbage they teach in school about how the shaman with the big feathery headdress is actually some deep brilliant thinker that we cant comprehend and not just an expert shitposter
we may have more complicated stuff today but a gun is still basically just throwing a rock really fast at the other tribes guys.
Jacob Howard
What amuses me about this comment is that furries have objectively shit taste and a good percentage of the art is horrendously bad.
I say "objectively shit taste," because in the online art community, as in people who do commissions, doing furry art is "easy mode," although you are selling your soul to do it. Furries have deep pockets and are so starved for art of their fantasies and fursonas that they'll pay ridiculous amounts for scenes or even just character art, and the quality can be absolute shit and they'll eat it up and beg for more.
Go ask /ic/ if you dont believe me, I almost did it once. I stopped halfway through putting a huge bulge on a wolf and refunded the guy his money (yes he did pay upfront). It was a single character, no color full body portrait, and he paid me $75 up front. Shits fucking nuts dudes.
Benjamin Davis
true, some human aspects have remained unchanged throughout a thousand years, but many things are also fundamentally alien to us. We can never fully comprehend their mindset or their lifestyle for that matter which is a shame really. But when hunting and gathering is the main benefactor of your life then a strong religious belief around these animals and the spirit world happens and faith can sometimes be very hard to catch specifically because its after all faith. Something not physically present except for rituals done by humans.
Ryder Garcia
Like when I see asriel threads on /trash/ the 20 something posters there have such a devotion to him that it could be a cult in previous years. Yeah it really is something. So many furries have weird fetishes that totally lack any art whatsoever than ms paint drawings can go for top dollar. I do wonder where all the money comes from, as iirc the majority of furries are under or unemployed, and I really don't want to think that they're using their parents' money on bad porn
Cameron Miller
Partially because most of them grew up, partially because Veeky Forums has sorta softened it's collective butthurt either through bigger fish to fry or the porn getting better than it was a decade ago. Ponies kinda took the mantle from regular furries as the most fucking annoying group and now since GG and the election, there's so many newfags that don't know about the site's history that they wouldn't bat an eye from some light furfaggotry. It's not like 09' and before where one picture would result in twenty images of spess murinees demanding a purge.
Kayden Barnes
Spess murinees?
Isaac Foster
Because furries used to bombard threads with furry porn for no reason other than to say, "Look at us and our fetish! Lol!" Furfags just couldn't shut the fuck up about being furfags. It consumes their lives and is all they talk about. And they were so fucking OBNOXIOUS about it too.
There's a reason people call /pol/ fags the new Furries. Same principle, different beast.
Luke Hughes
Space Marine reaction images from the game Warhammer 40k. Pic related is an example.
Xavier Foster
the first six years of Veeky Forums seem like a wild era, I wish I was old enough to have been there
Gabriel Scott
it's not uncommon to find similair patterns of thought in the human race or others for that matter, feelings have always stood strong. A neanderthal was found in collapsed cave for example, on further inspection it was shown that he had small specs of what used to once be flowers on him and that this was actually a neanderthal which was buried quite respectfully, he was also shown to be crippled by birth, having some serious bone defects that made him unable to hunt and gather which was the most important way of life back then, but the tribe took care of him since birth even though he only a resource and he lived til he was 40 years old.
Ryder Richardson
need some religious art.
Jackson Stewart
Those where where super cringey.
James Russell
>asriel Don't tell me you're talking about *this* Asriel.
Nathan Thomas
There was a hell of a lot more OC and genuinely cool/offensive content, that's for sure. These days, even places like /b/ and /pol/ are child's play compared to gorespammer infested Bakemonogatari threads, let alone legit CP popping up from time to time. Ever since the Scientology shit and RickRolling, it's been downhill ever since. /pol/ can't even make racism funny since most of the tards on now are srs business and took all the fun out of it.
Liam Perry
yup. the gote damn, I really wish I could have seen that. How long have you been here?
Jonathan Wright
are you the same guy as this guy?
Charles Carter
Yeah
Evan Martin
I googled the image
The art is decent tbqh
Liam Green
Eleven years.
Carson Wood
Wtf I love furries now
Brb drowning in monies
Adam Roberts
Is [s4s] a decent approximation of old /b/? meesh is one of the good furry artists, like tacklebox or glitter trap boy
Sebastian Myers
>Shamans and all that do not count as they come in touch with nature for religious purposes, not sexual fetish. Well, there's actually some pretty twisted sexual stuff involved in those animal totem mysticisms.
And then there's the Egyptians, don't even get me started on the twisted sexual stuff that those furries get into.
But yeah, the Disney bit, sexualizing animals from a young age, is kind of it's own thing. I don't think it's a real deliberate creation, however. Fetishists are going to fetishize no matter what you do, and a lot of sexual hangups, indeed, nearly all of them, go back to childhood.
Ian Morales
A lot of furries work on IT or some STEM field
Easton Bailey
Furries are the people of the future
Samuel Lopez
Mah nigga. Early 2006 here.
Robert Martin
May the gods have mercy on us
Jacob Roberts
Furries are dregs.
Mason Watson
the dregs of the future! the new proletariat
Andrew Powell
>I wish I had been there No you don't man, you really don't. Shit was horrible. It was funny as fuck though. Has it right, ever since the Scientology bit a lot of people forgot to do things "for the lulz," and started thinking they were crusaders and shit. It was lame as fuck.
I've been here 12 years
Cooper Cook
[s4s] is objectively the best board on Veeky Forums, it’s on another level, higher than /b/.
Gabriel Perry
>No you don't man, you really don't. Shit was horrible. It was funny as fuck though. that sounds amazing nothing fun ever happens anymore
Levi Turner
I think Disney is responsible for more fetishes than people realize.
I don't remember the movie but there's one where a prince is attacked and bound and gagged, struggling all the while. I watched that scene over and over again, actually learned how to work the VCR so I could do it myself. Thus began my BDSM fetish, and it's still going strong today.
hmm yeah so Disney was the cause for you not surprising as they have had a huge effect on childhood and most furries watch those movies in their childhood
Sebastian Turner
More like modern mass media is responsible. Kids get exposed to a lot of weird stuff that fucks their brain.
Brandon Rivera
/b/ still gets up to stuff sometimes, I remember last year they did a pretty hardcore raid on YouTube for putting some trans video in their banner, and then went even more ballistic when they realized that YouTube had used people's incredibly personal videos, some of which were private, without consent. The amount of butthurt was immense, and we had a Knowyourmeme page within 8 hour.
A bunch of Reddit threads popped up, and someone from /b/ tried to blame the raids on /pol/, but accidentally typed /po/, so /po/ got counter raided by Reddit. Then everyone lost their shit because /po/ is like the little sister of the site, and a bunch of boards got involved, even including /k/. Shit went on for like 2 weeks, it was awesome.
Xavier Cox
>Shit was horrible. The most horrible part is that we're still here after 10-11 years
