Why does it seem like Russia has always been very weak relative to its size?

Why does it seem like Russia has always been very weak relative to its size?

Russia was always a threat to its neighbors at every point of its history.

Most of it land is a giant uninhabitable frozen shithole
Western russia is the only part that matters

Weak economy due the lack of natural icreefree deep water ports.

>Russia was always a threat to its neighbors at every point of its history.

Compare that to a country like Britain or France. They had colonies in Asia, in Africa, and even North America. Russia had few colonies in Alaska and that's it. Why didn't Russia have any colonies in Africa during the Colonial era? Why didn't they properly colonize the east coast of the North America?

No warm ports
Thats why russia gets into so many wars for warm ports and why everyone jumps at the chance to fuck them in the ass every time they do

When I said "east coast" what I actually meant was "west coast." I have to clarify that now before somebody else notices.

The whole eastern half of Russia is basically a colony.

>has always been either the 1st or 2nd strongest land power on earth for the past 300 years
>weak for its size

nah man Russia has been strong enough to take on the entire European continent at once and still come out the winner, multiple times.

>Never establishes colonies in Africa
>Loses the Crimean War
>Loses the Russo-Japanese War
>Collapses during WW1 despite being on the winning side
>Gets taken over by commies
>Defeats Hitler, but suffers absurdly high casualties in the process
>Spends the next few decades playing spy vs. spy against America.
>Never puts a man on the moon, collapses in the 1990's
>Reduced to a shell of its former glory.
>Economy permanently crippled by sanctions

I am a moron - The Post

No arable land. It's the reason why Russian paid shills are all over Veeky Forums trying to encourage people to stop talking about AGW through shitposting. They want the climate to warm so they cease to be an arctic shithole, fuck the rest of the world. They want ice-free ports across the northern oceans and the only way to get it is by exporting more of that delicious russian oil + nat gas.

inb4 paid russian posters whining at the truth

>half
More like 4 fifths

All of that is true tho

Shit navy and no good ports

lots of land area doesn't mean lots of people living in it.

Woukd make no sense to sail all the way to Russia if you could just sell your colonial goods in Western Europe. Russia had no fleet or money to build a fleet to protect such trade routes too

And their economy now isn't diversified either - they're Europe's gas station. If the US lifted the gas export ban and started supplying Europe on the cheap, you can kiss Russia as a world player goodbye.

because 7/8 of it is a frozen wasteland

It’s not as big as you think it is, look at Russian from non-distortion, google earth view, also most of it is shit tier tundra but also not, Russians are parasites that want to conquer west and never improve their own conditions

90% of that is completely empty. 75% of the population lives in European Russia.
>They had colonies in Asia, in Africa, and even North America. Russia had few colonies in Alaska and that's it. Why didn't Russia have any colonies in Africa during the Colonial era?
Because Russia's Asian colonies were connected to it by land (Central and Northern Asia), and like the Americans they never bought the African colonization meme. It wasn't worthwhile economically.

because it is

>nah man Russia has been strong enough to take on the entire European continent at once and still come out the winner, multiple times.

Never heard of these european-russian wars please tell me more.

He is right tho and you are nothing but a butthurt ivan who doesn't like the truth.

>t. Ivan "Cyka" Ivanovich

Wrong you fucking moron, russian siberia is rich in minerals its just cold, eastern russia is their gateway to the pacific and also, you guessed it minerals such as oil

Because most of that size is wasteland.

Not during the time of troubles

Way to pick the most oversized map of Russia.

Besides, isn't it common fucking knowledge that a ton of that land is Tundra? You may as well ask why Australia is not as powerful as the US.

Napoleon's invasion of Russia, which comprised of France, the Duchy of Warsaw, Italy, Naples, the Rhine Confederation, Spain, Austria, Prussia, and Denmark, nearly the entire mainland continent participated

Operation Barbarossa, comprised of The German Reich, Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Croatia, and Slovakia. Again, the entirety of Mainland Europe participated barring France and Spain.

Backwards shithole.

It was a long time ago around the 1700 century Russia was peacfully enjoying co existence with it`s neighbours, but the evil western capitalist pigs wanted more of Russias land so they can opress the people under capitalism. But Russias trooped stayed strong and defeated the European commonwealth, the Asian union of China and the super power Australia in the battle of London , street 35 house number 12.
