Dunno about wherever you're from, but here in the U.S. veterans are given almost cult-like adoration. Restaurants, theme parks and grocery stores offer veteran discounts, we have holidays dedicated to them, politicians from birth parties clamor to increase their benefits and services (and letting voters know that they're doing it), and if you see a veteran on the street you're expected to thank them "for their service". Honestly it's bizarre how overly much veterans are respected here.

It's active-duty discounts, there's only one holiday, both parties have been steadily decreasing funding to a ton of VA programs, and no one expects you to "dank u 4 ur cervix", least of all veterans. It's an uncomfortable situation honestly, how do you even respond to that? "You're welcome?"
