Was slavery a thing in the Byzantine empire?

And if so, how extensive was it?

They were using South Slavs as slaves untill Bulgarians and Serbs pushed their shit in.

It was never outlawed and continued to be practiced until the end, but it was never a motor of the economy as it was during Rome's time.

Christ being a Slav is suffering.

Don't worry, they'll sweep up whatever's left of Western Europe in like a hundred years

I'm sure it's all worth it during their burst of glory. Doesn't last long until shit kicks in though.

They also make cool paintings.

that's what made them into one of the toughest people on earth.

Slavery was largely phased out in the Komnenian era, as they were not really important, you see also the slow disappearance of eunuchs during this time.

Slaves in Byzantium served mostly as servants for the rich nobility and or as state servants, they were not indentured workers like in Roman republic/empire.

>tough

>toughest people on earth.
All American memes about muh tough Slavs aside, not even remotely.

?

And yet they outlasted all those things

t. =U=stasa

Most Slavs I've met havent been very tough desu.

ya, toughnacity is a recessive gene :r)

...

It's about attitude. Slavs throw jokes that would make majority of westerners cry. Slavs just don't give a shit and deal with everything they get.

The only attitude I notice in slavs is that of an anti-intellectual barbarian

Serbs actually got their name from word slave (serve)

That guy look like a faggot
