So i think this is a real problem. People get a lot of their information about history from youtube. A lot of these channels are a great source of info but a large chunk of them is politically motivated either leftwing or rightwing.
A lot of these channels are giving the history we all want to keep objective a political color which doesn't belong in a study which should be objective and hold no bias.
Some examples
Bill warner (AKA bill french): this dude puts phd in his title but has a phd in math not in history. His sources don't add up and he holds an extreme anti-islamic view: youtube.com/watch?v=QwXtTwNvWXc
Vox, these guys are a little more subtle, but they have a clear left wing agenda. Some of their videos give an very biased view without nuance: youtube.com/watch?v=lxMWSmKieuc
PragerU: to be honest, the only people who believe these guys are retards drooling from their mouths but still, a very conservative political channel posing as an educational one, even adopting the name "university", while having noting to do with such an institution. youtube.com/watch?v=F9HT4fQWtdg
the problem i'm trying to present here is NOT political channels on youtube, it is political channels posting pseudo-educational video's about history backing their agenda.
This is dangerous for the credibillity of a field of study we all love
Does anyone else know more channels like this? i kinda pulled this list out of my ass so it would be great to make it more complete
Creating a list and putting it in image format might be cool
If you want to expand it to include all humanities 8-bit philosophy and school of life are the most atroscious examples of basterdizing philosophy I've ever seen.
School of life turns everything into secular feel good nonsense; it's take on Spinoza for instance intionally misrepresents his use of the word 'nature', and seems to hint he was an atheist while never menitoning his pantheism, the defining trait of his philosophy.
8-bit philosophy in addition to having hideous videos. Seems to just be about taking big concepts and bastardizing in order to end every video with a 'debate' in the comic sections. "So Nietzsche had this concept called an Ubermench. It basically means being Gung-ho but also a meanie. Maybe being mean is no good. What do you think?"
Ryder Martin
I referenced PragerU's Wilson Miscamble in a report on the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. 'The atomic bombing allowed the so-called peace faction in the Japanese government to negotiate a surrender...'
Josiah Jackson
not that crafty with images, might include humanities it's kinda the same problem but i'm not that great at philosophy
Evan Scott
as i said, making points without nuance so that viewers who aren't studied in the field will take in their view

The internet is the single worst thing to happen to human society ever and democracy will not survive it
Jaxon Wilson
This is a problem that's older than youtube, people who consume media thats made by other people always are subject to the ideas of the creator of that piece. People who don't want to do research for themselves have existed since the dawn of civilization and follow the words of people that have made impact on themselves. Youtube is just a modern version and has made it only easier for people to think they found something that resonates with them and accept it as truth. I dont think this will ever go away
Brayden Reyes
history will always be influenced by the position the writer takes, but this is blatant ww2 style propaganda
Ryan James
not perse, traditional media also made biased docu's
David Morris
>Ph.D in math >makes a living doing history videos in youtube STEM masterrace amirite

The prager u video about the civil war was 100% right.
Cooper Jenkins
Their only good video.
Michael Parker
Honestly, it was a tiny percent of elites on either side who were battling over the slavery issue. Southern elites wanted it to maintain their powerful status, northern elites (who didnt think niggers were human as well) wanted to end slavery to increase their political and economic power in the country. The hundreds of thousands of northern conscripts who were thrown to die and hundreds of thousands of southern men who died fighting off what they saw as destructive foreign invasion probably didnt think about slavery all too often. But hey, WYPIPO are always evil :D
William King
The Abolitionists would never got as much fuel to their fire if the South didn't violate Northern state's rights with the Fugitive slave act.
Oliver Anderson
Prager is always right. get fucked leftist
Charles Walker
they're certainly right about some things
Dylan Baker
Go away Dennis.

Prager U is baby boomer neocon garbage. No self-respecting right-winger watches this shit.
Cameron Young
>Stalin killed more people than Hitler but Hitler was still worse because he killed more of God's Chosen People™ into the trash it goes
Elijah Anderson
Prager is shilled by a "conservative" jewish radio talk show host.
anyone with 2 brain cells should know that it shouldn't be trusted.
Ethan Ramirez
>inb4 some nigger comes in here with his shitty little comics saying if you don't pick Prager U or Vox you're a "dirty centrist"
Angel Jenkins
>Stalin was worse than Hitler lol
Nathan Powell
There not mean't to educate. Videos can't give people educations. Not truly. All of these videos are for philistines, the only true histories are the ones that account for the sins of humans and the plans of the earth. Which people would throw themselves off of cliffs if they were forced to hear in a video. Better to just reaffirm their world.

hey idiot anything you can put in a book or a lecture you can put in a youtube video
Leo Perry
and it'd be as worthless as you. Get a fucking job and an education if you want to learn.
Chase Hughes
What's wrong with Prager's video about FDR? It's mistake is that it's extremely simplified version
I'd choose their video about British Empire. Extremely selective and they guy even makes it seem as if the British were fightint the Soviets too.
>brits brought freedom >literally genocided and comitted war crimes from New York to Hong Kong
Zachary Ross
*its
Too bad the one about the British Empire gets "debunked" by socialists as if they have any moral standards. Conservatists are afraid of criticizing the flaws and ommisions in the Prager video because it would seem as if they were agreeing with the left and no one wants to award "points" to the enemy.
Jeremiah Morales
if u no the tru histories y dont u thro urself off a clif????
Nathaniel Barnes
Well it's more or less the point of Ferguson's book.
Only Ferguson was even handed when it came to wrongdoings of the British. The historian in the Prager video just said the same things in favor of the British without anything to balance them out. So basically that the British promoted economic freedom, ended slavery and such. Also that they fought Hitler and saved the world or whatever they always say.
Eli Carter
>philistine let me guess you just discovered nietzsche?
Kevin Kelly
>i eat shit for a living so I can't afford an education! enjoy youtube

Vox is honestly one of the best progressive media organizations, it’s not click bait bs like many other admittedly political websites. Their non political content is even better. Even though I do not agree with many of it’s stances I can see that it is run by self respecting people.
PragerU is literally one of the worst political amateur garbage channels you can find, all their political content is contemporary conservative meme talking points and has no room to discuss actual policy, it’s honestly sort of useful as a gateway into politics, but keep an open mind as you should when listening to any overtly biased opinions. Their history content is pretty ok though imo
Julian White

Ayden Collins
Vox is useful for exactly two things. Their video about origins of ISIS and memes that juxtapose their tweets and articles to show their Himalayan sized hypocrisy and regressiveness.
Samuel Lewis
books are inefficient, they have a much lower information content than HD video from the standpoint of information theory. The mind is adapted to learning from multiple different information channels like sight, sound and touch and the more of these a piece of media can engage the more effective it will be at conveying its content.
Aaron Sanchez
>muh HD its all fluff. Online courses are a second-rate education
Leo Torres
reading a book is like, what, 30 bytes a second?
College is fucking retarded, instead of every school in the world having some lazy untrained grad student teach your classes you can just watch videos from the best lectures in the world on that subject. Just because you need someone to hold a letter grade over your head to keep you motivated doesn't mean we all do.
Jaxon Taylor
>not getting your information from primary source original and untranslated historic documents Retards deserve to be deceived. Anyone who actually cares goes to the historic source material and doesn't rely on second hand accounts or summary.
Zachary Bell
online courses don't give you a letter grade at all. Im not saying that a physical college is the only way to learn, but online schools cannot educate people on the level of any traditional university. you gonna read them in their original language? without ever being formally taught that language?
Colton Sanchez
*Reads A People's History of the United States*
Logan Cox
You should read guns germs and memes first, user.
Oliver Harris
>learning a language formally Anyone who actually cares learns new languages by immersion, through context and culture. pleb.
Justin Parker
How does it do that?
Landon Lewis
Not exactly history but School of Life seems to fall under this with their philosophy videos. youtu.be/T0uKnF_6E0Q

Vox, these guys are a little more subtle, but they have a clear left wing agenda.
>PragerU: to be honest, the only people who believe these guys are retards drooling from their mouths but still, a very conservative political channel
Not biased at all.
Jeremiah Hall
They made a better point: No one cares when someone kills their own people
Landon Baker
Every outlet. Every person. They all have an agenda. Even you. You just need to be aware of bias and be a free thinker.
Eli Diaz
No passive media can ever teach as effectively as an active media. A book requires you to put effort and thought into effectively taking it in, a video does not. This is the reason classes assign work projects and reading: to keep your participation with the subject matter active.
Carson Parker
>not biased at all Anyone with half a brain should be biased against PragerU, their argument that israel has the most ethical army is that they are a conscript army and they tell citizens of a urban area they're going to destroy their house hours before the fact.
Cameron Nelson
Their video on objective morality is just horrid.
Leo Roberts
over one-third of Southern households owned slaves. The 1% figure is extremely misleading.
Lincoln Collins
>over one-third of Southern households owned slaves t. already drank the kool-aid
Jason Reyes
PragerU is by far the worst of all, the way they are smug about everything in their videos and pushing their rhetoric as historical facts is really disgusting >Japs had it coming, anglo empire dindu nuffin, burgerland must police the world Fucking garbage
Jackson Wilson
As if their Marx video didn't expose them enough.
Lucas Cox
Their Marx video was actual pretty impartial, unless you're getting your political knowledge from steven crowder's channel
Robert Lopez
whats wrong with any of that? I havea problem with them masturbating over fuedal europe being a worker's paradise.
Christopher Gonzalez
Marx was wrong
Nathaniel Scott
No. They are so sure Marx will be the "guide" who will solve economic questions of the future. Even in the video that paints such a rosy picture of Marx's ideas there's nothing to justify that. Well they say that Marx was the one to "notice" that some people are poor. Bravo Karl. I will give them a pass for not saying outright that Marx was full of shit because while this is a natural thing to say and it will never stop being true it may not be the best idea to say it in an educational video that pretends to be impartial.
Nathaniel Martinez
Engels lived long enough to realize that.
Tyler Powell
Considering Vox supports Antifa I don't know who Prager would have to support or whitewash to be just as bad. People are mostly butthurt because while open left-wing bias is something so common everybody is used to it, their open bias is more rare.
Brody White
The whole point of the videos is to portray each philosophy in a light where every normie can say "ohhh that makes sense :-)" Honestly trying to understand the point of view of Marxism is worthwhile, given that Marxism more than any other ideology changed the history of the last century.
Josiah Cooper
Dennis pls go
Landon Bailey
Prager's video about the Middle Ages was pretty good. But yeah they're right wing ideologues overall
Dylan Robinson
The discussion was on historical misinformation. Not how much you agree with their politics or who they 'support.' Prager is more wrong than right and they're pretty obvious about it. That's all it takes
Jordan Rodriguez
>given that Marxism more than any other ideology changed the history of the last century
That's one way to put it.
Daniel Watson
Bill Warner is right on Islam being dangerous to mankind, fuck Islam.
PragerU is right that the U.S. government didn't end but extend the Great Depression.
kys faggot
Parker Hall
I wouldn't agree with that, they conflated the early, hight and late middle ages and pretended the dark age is meant to describe tbe entire period.
Wyatt Thomas
Middle Ages was supposed to be a derogatory name too.
Joseph Jenkins
Well some people do use it to describe the whole period. Honestly, the term should just be tossed all together like many historian are saying. Just call it the early middle ages .
Nicholas Bailey
This is the result of right-wing youtube education ladies and gentlemen
Carson Walker
He's right about the Depression. And Islam too in some way considering how fucked up it's become in recent decades.
John Sanders
I don't know. I think they are a bit too ideologically driven when they talk about foreign policy. That Israel video was the equivalent of post colonial propaganda, almost. I am also a bit sceptical about both Vox's and PragerU's view on the basis of the american governmental "party-switch" that happened.
Isaiah Stewart
Don't confuse us mere mortals with such hard words. For example: You come of as a pompous prick.
Jaxson Baker
I've been thinking about this a lot. I wonder what from of social/political organization lends itself well to mass media societies. The printing press brought down the past political order yet somehow we think the current order is going to shrug off something as radically different as the internet?
Seems like anarchy, but I'd want to read what someone smarter than me thinks about it.
Lincoln Lopez
I agree with this but more books should have images and disgrams. If I'm reading about a battle, show me a map. If I'm reading about political structure, show a hierarchy diagram.
Isaac Smith
Bias is natural. But we can both agree that putting ideology first when reviewing history - in contrast to when you view through perhaps an economic perspective - can be a grave mistake. Economy is a good starting point, like technological history and the like, because it permits one to view history through the lens of humanities actions rather than ideas. I am not a historian, I just browse Veeky Forums for fun because sometimes i find threads with just these important parts of history discussed.
Juan Garcia

Parker Morgan
If by right-wing youtube education you mean facts then yes, the result of facts is factual evidence.
William Sanchez
American Jews are weird. Most Americans are autistic about their """heritage""" but don't feel in any particular way about the country of their ancestors. Jews like Ben Shapiro seem like radical Israeli patriots even though they've never even lived there.
Nolan Stewart
Prager video about Greenpeace is also correct. Called them out for blocking golden rice.
Bentley Turner
This is an 1860 census archived by the University of Virginia that shows the % of slave owning families in the states. You'll notice it's well above "1%" for all the southern states.
