Also, Veeky Forums related, this board constantly memes how Finland won the war, the USSR lost it, it was humiliating defeat, etc, yet they took all the land they wanted.

They wanted all of Finland though

Before the war there was a lengthy diplomatic mission, they specifically said what land they wanted to rent from Finland, so that it won't be used by Germany in a potential invasion.
Basically protecting Leningrad by leasing Finnish land that was used during the Civil War by Germans to aid Finland and threaten the city.
When the actual war started, they had plans to take more, as every country does in every war, but the goal wasn't that much. They got all they wanted, minus some islands, plus extra in the north.

Also if you read early diplomacy, the initial offer was Finland to not lease or give anything, but just to declare publicly that they aren't an ally of Germany and not part of the anti-Comintern faction.
Which, considering the faction didn't help them in the war, they probably should've done.

They also wanted to lease bases from the Baltic states. Look what happened once they had their troops there.

You forget that the Winter War was anti-German diplomacy, while the Baltic occupation was pro-German diplomacy. It was part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.
Finland was asked to not join the German faction, they joined it, got attacked, and the faction didn't react. This meant the faction lose cohesion, and Germany dropped the anti-USSR diplomacy for a while, and cooperated. This is what led to the Baltic occupation.

I mean, its complicated. If Finland agreed to not join Germany, would the USSR invade them, causing a potential German reaction?

How? Finland is literally a reserve Sweden in case shit hits the fan. There's nothing Finnish that wasn't originally Swedish outside of their kakykiiiakkakakeke language and even that one didn't really originate in Finland.

Sweden is not a very old concept. Finland has been inhabited for 11000 years by countless different cultures, most of which had nothing to do with Scandinavia.
