The state of Africa

How much of Africa's plight is due to a history of exploitation and colonialism vs the Africans themselves?

I know very little about Africa and would like to learn.

It wouldn't be better without colonialism, we simply wouldn't know how bad it was.

>I know very little about Africa and would like to learn.
Pick up "The Fortunes of Africa" by Martin Meredith to give you an introduction to African history then.

As for your first question, it's hard to say. Plenty of lingering issues in the continent are undoubtedly directly linked to colonization, but case studies like Ethiopia seem to show that you very well would have ended up with a lot of the same problems in many areas even without being colonized.

Generally, the failure of so many African states can be attributed to
>Colonizers not adequately preparing local populations for decolonization, even going out of their way to make sure they're not prepared (see the Congo)
>Colonial economic interests/companies stick around and continue to abuse the country even after "official" independence (see Zambia, Congo/Katanga)
>tribalism and a general lack of democratic tradition making states very vulnerable to autocratic regimes

I think it absolutely would have been better, but not in the way most people think.

The biggest problem with colonization was the ways the borders were drawn up afterwards.

Take for example the Congo. There is no such thing as a Congolese ethnicity, language or people. After the Europeans left, the various tribes that inhabited the area, many of which hated each other, were expected to rule the country, with predictable results. Maybe if Europeans never came, Africa today would have more meaningful borders

There are good discussion to have on Africa, but It's become nigh impossible to have them here

If you look at cultural development as a tree with many branches as opposed to a checklist, the subject will be much easier to contextualize; not just in Africa but the world generally. Think what Europe would be like if it was full of great plains i stead of forest, what impact do you think that would have on technology, defense, culture, ect.

Think about what you value to be "better" and why? Is it an objective improvement like medicine, science and math or is it a Eurocentric/Americanized/etc ideal of concepts like capitalism, democracy, statehood, etc.

History is not the notation of forward progress, its a commentary on the diveresity human nature and the cultures that arise from it, most of which is determined by geography and climate.

Why do people have such a deep hatred for black people... Its so prevalent in many cultures, but its always the same petty insults, no real history or substance as to why...

Making repetitive threads for the sake of bait I understand, but how can you droopy-mouthed fish brains stand to respond to the same thread with the same answers and repeat the same conversations over and over?

Because wherever they exist, they bring a vast increase in violent crime, sexual crime and crime against property (theft, burglary, etc)
Naturally, social policy that affects everyone is impacted by issues unique to blacks. In America, for instance, blacks are less likely to attend college, have lower life expectancy, and have higher rates of obesity, diabetes, HIV, cancer, homosexuality, unemployment and incarceration. Such differences are similar throughout the West.
As a group, they rarely create anything that can be said to advance or improve mankind. As individuals they may benefit from interaction with non-black groups, but there is always a sense that they are being 'carried'. Their contributions in such circumstances are always overblown for political reasons, to the chagrin of their peers.

Honestly Africa is vast wealth and have their sovereign states and military intelligence. They are smart. The reason they leave is because cost of living is increasing due to powers that be. The only way for them to improve financially is by leaving. Colonialism was barbaric on both sides. Economic exploitation is more to blame.

Nah, dog.

Hand 1000 monkeys a typewriter each and they will eventually write you Homer's complete works

Hand the brainjars of every ITT poster a transcriptor and they would repeat the same fucking arguments until their screens burn out

Whitey dindu nuffin they gud bois

If you take all the studies of violence in tribal cultures it'd likely be more shit.

About 25% of men who make it to adulthood die violent deaths. Like chimps, humans attack members of other groups on sight if they vastly outnumber them.

Rape of rivals women, mutilation, and torture are incredibly common in existing tribal cultures and records of early civilization..

Absolutely none of it. Also, I would like to point out that historically the most plagued part of Africa has been the south central. Places like North, East, and West Africa (caucasoid/Mediterranean civilizations mostly) have done fine and continue to do fine. So stop trying to throw them all under the same umbrella. What you should be focusing on is that south central region. You know who lives there? BANTUS. You know what group of Africans composes the majority of blacks today? BANTUS. There is a genetic component here that explains it all. Africa may not have much arable
Land but it does have some and on a per capita basis, they have more than anyone on the planet due to how sparsely populated they are. Perfect weather year round. Rich wildlife, vegetation, water, etc...and now with literal diamonds gold
And oil overflowing from the ground. ITS NOT GEOGRAPHY ITS NOT COLONISLAM ITS NOT EXPLOITATION IT SFUCKING GENETICS

GENETICS

THEY CANT DO IT. ITS NOT IN THEIR DNA

All of it cause the former of those two things is caused by the latter.

please do not denigrate their proud culture you RAYCISS

Do you know which region of Africa suffers the most from the AIDS epidemic? Do you know which region suffers the most from Ebola? How is it every other part of the continent understands not to eat monkey shit off the ground? Why is it that the overpopulation crisis comes from this same region?

Before Europe conquered the continent, the small lag in Africa was nobodies fault.

After Europe conquered the continent, they set policy, so they're responsible for what happened.

So today, Africa's state is the fault of the people who run the continent, partly African elites and partly European/American elites.

>I don't like it so it's bait

>small lag

As of the discovery of America, Africans were making and using gunpowder weapons.

Is the use of gunpowder weapons any kind of milestone in civilization?
